Currently got an ATI 4850 on a q8300 and 6gb ddr2 ram, the gfx seems to be failing a bit on MW2 mainly when walking around/shooting.

Any suggestions anything i could try before i consider upgrading the card? ( latest drivers for everything and DirectX, i have tried playing with the gfx settings within the game but dont seem to help it. )

Or what would be a better card to go for? don't want to break the bank, but what would be a substantial upgrade from this?

Sorry - a bit on the slow/jerky side here and there.

Excuse the lack of description not entirly sure how to describe it.

What res you playing at? Cause for me my 9800GTX+ (similar performance to 4850) can run MW 2 smooth maxed out at 1680x1050. I don't play multi-player online mode though.

May be you should try overclocking your CPU a bit than leaving it at stock speed?

Make sure you don't have any settings maxed in the CCC like AA. or have the filter set to anything but the default which is box.

Also - nothing else running in background i closed everything before hand to make sure it wasnt anything background wise.

i have only played it single player so far, not played online as of yet.

running it at 1920x1080

@Bz786 sorry could you expand on that, do you mean ram and motherboard wise?

Thanks.

yeah CPU speeds, Ram speeds and GPU speeds.

also check what Raven has mentioned. having the CCC setup to run AA/AF etc on max will knock performance. Best to leave on default and control it from ingame

AA is set to 8x ( max )
AAA is set to quality with the box "enable adaptive anti-aliasing" unticked
AF 16x ( max )
AI Advanced
Mipmap Quality

Max AA in game you can set is 4xAA so I don't know if setting 8x in the CCC will have an effect, anyway I take it you have tried it with no AA on in the CCC? your card is decent but even at 4xAA you may encounter lag, I would suggest 2x maximum, especially if your card is a 512mb version. Keep AI set to standard in the CCC.

That res may be a bit much for the 4850 but dropping some eye candy should make it smooth.

I'm not familiar with the 4850 but is it 512mb? If so you could be hitting vram limits.

Ok after some fiddling and setting the texture settings to auto ( they were all set to extra )

much better, but now i get sort of like lines across moving.

I have a 4870 1Gb and an e6400 and run it at 1920x1200 and its pretty much 60fps apart from points where it can dip a bit. I'd say that you need to tone the settings down a bit.
