Ubisoft's New DRM Cracked In Under 25-Hours

Really? 100% legit music/films/pictures/software collection?

Yea I think I'm 100% legit and I've just had a proper think about it.

I've right-clicked art I've liked off the browser and 'set as desktop' which I guess may infringe someone's copyright somewhere.

Hmm .. I have BOUGHT a mobile phone with memory stick off a guy that had music on the stick. Not sure if I've broken any rules as I don't know whether he had them legit and deleted his copy after I bought the stick or not???

It's not only principle that stops me stealing, it is a load of hassle as well.

I think I am as close to 100% legit as anyone. TBH I never watch my legitimate DVD collection films, so why bother copying 'District 9' when I'll probably only watch it once every 10 years anyway so just borrow it from a mate each time I want to see it, or in 5 years it'll be on TV every 3 days anyway..

EDIT - glanced Tefals' post. Half the stuff he said isn't illegitimate. CERTAINLY lending isn't illegitimate and never has been.

How is this different to downloading Assassin's Creed 2?

Go read the copyright message on your District 9 ;)

It would be server and client side not just server.

It seems to me, like the did with AC1, that Ubisoft is lieing. Basically saying that the bug-ridden piece of **** that people were pirating wasn't the full version even though it was.

It probably has been cracked and the only problem people will have with completing the game is probably a Ubisoft bug, again.

I'm not condoning piracy but there has to be a better way of this rubbish DRM that they are imposing on legitimite buyers. Tefals picture is spot on why do we have to go through all that - what's the point on warning a legitimate person who has bought the DVD about not pirating it when pirated versions dont have it.

actually it is.

the RIAA and thier british counter parts made a big song and dance that vcopying your cd to the pc might be covered by your right to make a electronic back up, but then copying it to your mp3 player to listen to not as a back up most certainly isn't.

They also sued people for playing the radio loud enough for co-workers to over hear.

Lending your dvd to someone comes under that big "no unauthorised lending" screen at the start of your DVD's which you will have seen unless you use a dodgy dvd player that allows you to skip them ;)

Well done pirate :)

Eye patches can be found over there, high horses however aren't allowed on board the ship but if you neatly fold it's legs we can probably find a space in the hold.

Now go and scrub the poop deck!

OK, let's cut to the chase: As a PC gamer, do you think skidrow is great for making it easy for people to steal these games, or do you think they are not great for making it easy for people to steal these games?

I think they're great for giving legit customers a work around for obtrusive DRM.

Never had someone over to watch a DVD/blu ray together?

That's allowed. It's when it's a 'group' of people that it becomes a very grey area.

The others though are quite correct, however 'lending' is pretty much impossible to prove, as you are allowed to 'give' it out including ownership only to receive it back including ownership - it legally means lending 'for money', or renting as most people would understand it.

IANAL of course, but I do read the copyrights around CDs :D

I think they're great to show the holes in someones system. Skidrow are only proving a point and not distributing it - that will be other people. The only problem is that people like Ubisoft think they're cleverer than these people so they will release some other stupid DRM system which will only affect legitimate purchasers - they see it as affecting the pirates which it doesn't really do as they bypass it.

I don't think they are great but I don't dislike them either. In the same way I don't dislike Samsung for making disc drives that can copy DVD's.

They offer a great service which can be abused to the advantage of pirates.

argh I wasn't too sure if it had to be a single person or a group :p

As for the work around on lending, oh you couldn't possibly think that such a righteous man as britboy would ever use such a deceitful pack of lies to get around the law now would you :p

That is great... Are you looking for some sort of award? :D

Maybe if these big companies did away with stupid DRM and made some proper games designed for PC again, instead of insulting us with these console ports, they might actually gain more respect.

Well done pirate :)

Seriously though Tefal - I've read from your posts you LOVE PC gaming. Like me, you love it. It's awesome - and I laugh in the face of 360 owners. Surely you'd be as gutted as I would if it finished forever and we all had to go and buy crappy consoles, whatever the reason?

I see piracy as having the potential to cause such a disaster :( Seriously I see it as having the capability to entirely destroy perhaps my favourite hobby. I've heard ALL the 'I wouldn't have bought it either way' arguments etc. but beyond the arguments the fact is we have hundreds of console releases, and PC gaming is already 1 2-foot shelf in the dark grungy end of the local computer game store.

Put another way, if they announced 'stalker 4 best ever' was only coming out on PS3 due to rampant PC piracy destroying sales .. would you not even feel a tang of regret or dislike for the pirates? Or would you see it 100% as 'evil Mr Developer/Publishers' fault and the pirates are innocent ?

Exactly.

Start up companies/devs that make a great game with basic DRM nearly always make enough money to carry on and grow their series and gain a lot of loyal fans in the process.
