HTC Hero, coming July on Orange and T-Mobile, makes me want!

just got a hero and really like it, got a strange problem tho, ive just unlocked the phone from t-mobile to all networks. with wifi connected and using youtube app the vid quality is crystal clear, but when using o2's mobile web via hsdpa the quality of the same youtube vid is pixelated badstyle, its crap quality tbh. so how come anyone know?

Once the video has started press 'menu' button then select 'more' on the right hand lower part of screen then you'll get a menu come up search/homepage/watch in high quality. Select the latter and voila :)

anyone had issues since upgrading to latest HTC Orange rom?

my microphone is now really fate/low, i practically have to shout for people to hear me now :(

from what i have seen with my mates t-mob one its a bad idea to upgrade the roms using the networks updates use the HTC ones and the phone is soo much nicer to use.

Nope, forgot to wipe first so had lots of F'cs :o just re flashing now  the only thing ive spotted on the thread is wifi doesnt work which may be a pain .

Yeah spotted that too. Will let you guys be guinea pigs for a while :D

Overall it sounds promising as it could imply that the official release is just round the corner.

Good luck

im running it now  its fast, the fastest 2.1 ive tried so far, wifi doesnt work :( hopefully that will be fixed soon, multitouch on the home screen works lovely so you get to see all your windows

when i get home il try to download titanum backup and linda so i can get all my apps back to see how it really performs .

The real deal should be released soon, non? Rather looking forward to it.

Those with rooted phones or who may want to have a rooted phone at some point should not install the vanilla HTC update until it is confirmed that it can be rooted. If it can't then you've just locked yourself into official ROMs only.

Better to wait a couple of days until a rooted version of the ROM is released.

I dont understand any of these ROMS and why people update. The standard vanilla HTC ROM is more than fast enough, mine does everything instant so there is never any problems.

Well...

There is talk that the early ROMs were hit and miss and were not always fast enough. Some features and applications were unavailable (like wireless tether for root users) to standard phones.

For the adventurous, there is an early Android 2.1 ROM out right now that was modded from the Eris ROM. HTC are still weeks away from releasing their 2.1 ROM for the Hero. Some of Googles "must have" applications are only available on 1.6 or 2.x ROMs and may never be available on 1.5. This 3rd party experimental ROM is, of course, only available to rooted phones. As with all new technology there are some people who want it immediately and do not want to wait for manufacturers to tell them they are permitted to play with their phones.

This is an overclocking site, I'm sure this attitude rings a bell.

Here's another good reason:

Orange use their ROMs to prevent you using a SIM unlock unless you have purchased it from Orange themselves. These SIM unlocks could be unavailable for a period and then you are at the mercy of their price structure. In order to unlock an Orange HTC phone you needed to root the phone, install a 3rd party ROM and then use your SIM unlock code.

just flashed the Vanillian 3.1 rom to my phone now as its better than the one i posted above, plus there better optimised than the official htc roms that come out.

Just put this one on too, it's pretty good.

Few FC and applications not responding but certainly better than the earlier 2.1 ROMs I tried.

not had a single FC yet, i did have a few apps that wouldnt install from titanium so ive re downloaded them, so far its a great rom

I'll be going back to Modaco 3.1 on Monday.

Got horrible battery use, FC all the time and it generally isn't working as well as MCR.
