Hi all, I was looking to buy myself a freeview box. I heard freeview HD is coming soon? If so, has anyone heard anything of boxes that:

1) Use an HDMI ouput (1080i output)
2) Have some kind of Tivo facility built in on hard drive so I can skip adds.
3) Contain a good EPG that lets you record stuff and "Series Link" just like sky does.
4) Perhaps allow you to burn recorded data to DVD-r (not 100% bothered about this)

oh and the box is not allowed to be from Sky, the whole point is I am fed up of paying for Sky or virgin.

Well duh. In a thread about DVB-T2 I'd hope no-one would go recommending you DVB-S equipment.

Back on thread, the Freeview HD STB to buy is the Humax HD-FOXT2. There aren't currently any Freeview HD PVR's on the market, it's expected the first ones will be released in Q2 this year.

I heard freeview HD is coming soon?
Some transmitters are already enabled for it (some were before any Freeview HD receivers had been released!) but others haven't been yet. Look yours up online.

If you have had sky, i would get a Freesat HD PVR tbh. Cheaper and will do the exact same as FreeviewHD.

Cheaper and will do the exact same as FreeviewHD.

There are some channels on Freesat that aren't on Freeview, and some channels on Freeview that aren't on Freesat.

The main channel difference that I'd care about is that on Freeview HD Ch4 HD is unencrypted, but on Freesat HD Ch4 HD is encrypted and would need a 'Freesat from Sky' (£20 one off) or a subscription card to decrypt it.

Didn't know C4HD wasn't on Freesat! FreeviewHD stb would be better, the one from Humax would be the best, but again no PVR.

Freesat-from-sky viewing card (£20) + CAM with the right software (~£100) and it would be available in the "Non-Freesat / Other Sat" mode... but as it's not part of Freesat you'd only get now&next - no EPG.

Found the proper info on it:
So far, only the Diablo CAM 2 (purchase from here) has been got to work with the new white Sky cards (what they've replaced the Blue cards with), although Analoguesat claimed Sky might find a way to block these, though I don't know whether anyone has confirmed whether this has happened.
I'm also pretty sure, from what I've read, that even if you have a legit Sky contract card with movies and sport etc you'll only be able to get the FSFS channels when using a CAM; the subscription channels (that you're legitimately paying for!) use another type of encryption that only a Sky box (or Dreambox ;)) can read..

Have you checked when you'll actually be able to get FreeviewHD? It might be worth just getting a normal Freeview PVR now then selling later as there'll be a bigger range available, hopefully bringing the price down.
