Irritating evening.
Left work and went to the carpark where my vehicle is always parked, and as I approached I realised my back number plate is missing. Odd I thought, it shouldn't have fallen off, its always been rigidly attached, so walked round the front of the vehcile and find the front one has been ripped off also.

Went back into work, phoned the local police station to report the theft they asked me to attend to make a statment, drove up, and was met by a police car returning from a further crime. My number plates has been strapped to another vehicle, someone had filled up with £44 of petrol and then drove off, so the CCTV recorded my plates on a completely different car.

***** will steal anything these days. Most annoying matter is I can't get new plates tonight as I didn't have the taxbook in the car and to get plates made up here you need you licence and the police crime number along with the vehcile tax book/log book. I always keep the logbook at home, so have to gte new plates tomorrow.

I fitted some new plates to the missus' car the other day and used anti tamper screws

After I finished I realised 1 was not quite level, while not impossible to unscrew they were a real pain in the arse so it may be worth you getting a set

If your police force are like mine you will be stopped a few times and have to explain what happened over and over again. Similar happened to me when I passed my test (cloned plates), took about 4 stops for them to remove the marker on my car.

It's a shame the tamper proof number plates never realy took off, at least not to my knowledge anyway. I remember reading about them that they are designed to be under tension, and if you unscrew them it removes the tension and they just shatter. Obviously you still lose the plates, but at least with that sort of anti tamper stuff it is impossible for any criminals to use them.

Same thing happened to my dad a few weeks ago. The odd thing being that to get to his truck you have to climb over 6.5ft electric gates. And it's well lit too. I guess some people will do anything for virtually nothing..

Seems bizarre to me that they'd go to the effort of stealing someone elses plates rather than just making duplicates. Or is it that hard to make your own plates now?

You've reported them stolen and the appropriate markers will be on record and PNC so you are covered.

It may cause inconvenience sometimes if your car is flagged and you are stopped but it's a small price to pay. If you know the log no of the incident you phoned in it might come in handy and save time if you are stopped.

People steal plates to commit crime Abraham and why buy them when they can steal them ?
