Hello guys, i'm not too sure if this is the correct area to post a problem but here goes anyway.

I upgraded my pc with a i7 bundle on the overclockers site

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-044-OE

and once i installed the hardware and reformatted i had a few problems which a bios update seems to have fixed, but i cannot get rid of a problem with my ram, in windows 7 it states there is 6gb of ram but in brackets it has (4gb usable) i installed CPU-Z and it shows 6gb triple channel clearly but still for some reason only 4gb is usable.
I have hunted around a few forums and cant really find a solid solution for it.
Hopefully one of u guys might know or have experienced the same/similar problem before and can help me out with this, appreciate any help given.

PC SPECS:

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R
CPU: i7 930 2.8ghz (clocked at 4.2ghz)
RAM: Patriot Viper triple channel 6gb (3x2gb) ram
Graphics card: Nvidia Geforce 9800 gtx+

Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit Edition

hello m8,

had the same problem with mine UD5, and the problem was caused by bent pins on cpu socket. if it wont void warantyy take cpu from the socket and check if it hasn't got any bent pins.

thx for the reply mate, done some tests myself i took each stick out and placed them in 1 by 1 to see if they were being detected, first 2 passed fine showing 2gb's memory on bootup, put in the 3rd on its own and the computer wouldn't boot, so obviously its a damaged stick.
So gonna have to call them up tomorrow i hope they let me send just 1 back and not all 3 im not going to be able to use my pc otherwise, i wont see any difference with 2gb missing for a few days.

Well, at least your pins aren't bent. And you can RMA it :)
*Grrrrr's at UD5 with bent pins*

yeah definately, i would have probably preferred it if the pins were bent and i could manually fix it though, i just called them up and they wont accept 1 ram stick so i need to send all 3 back and they dont send the new set until they have recieved the old set back even though i assured them that i had found the faulty stick.
you would expect a little more from overclockers considering i have just spent £600 with them, now im going to be without a pc for a good 3 or 4 days and i have work to do....

will definately take this into consideration when ordering again.

Ah that's a shame but I think that's standard procedure with most companies. I'd just mark the faulty stick with a paper saying that's the one so they can quickly test it...

Yeah i guess so, was hoping their was a more convenient way for the customer i guess, well im not going to send them off until after the weekend anyway, so i can actually use my pc for a little gaming :)

Are you over clocking ?

If so put the cpu back to auto and see if it is still the same,
As I had this sometimes it would only show 2gig usable after I clocked to 4ghz +, a little fiddle with voltages and timings fixed the problem.

:)
