I just had an interview for my ideal job a technical support role basically maintaining the company's computers and networks and helping the staff with IT issues etc.

It went really well considering i am bad at interviews in fact it went too well because at the end of the interview the interviewer said he really liked me and my cv but he was worried that i was too technical and would find the job boring which is not true.

Feeling really angry and disappointed right now.

its hard enough to find a good job in this climate and this really was my ideal job in a great location and salary.

also feeling really demotivated been searching for a job for the last 3 months and i came really close to landing the job i wanted. The chances of that happening again are slim so im probably going to be forced to find a any old job that i actually will find boring

:(

As above what was said exactly?

You could always call them up again following the interview and say that you really are interested, and explain this is what you want to be doing

As Delvis said, I would give them a call. Explain that you are becoming more interested in the less technical aspects and would like more personal interaction, and that you think this opportunity really is the one you want.

The appeal might get you some points.

Been there, done that, it usually means they are scared that you are simply using the role as a stop gap or a way in, and they want someone more likely to stay. Or alternatively that you'll start demanding more money...

this pretty much, an ex of mine must've applied for a load of jobs, and of the ones she got interviewed for, they all said she was overqualified, maximum frustration all round :/

What did you say to him in response?

couldn't really say anything as he said it at the end as i was leaving
maybe i could have made more of an effort to get some final words in but tbh it was pretty unexpected and i didn't really know how to respond

Did he actually say you were not going to get the job?

well i guess he didn't but like i said the interview went really well (it as at the 2nd stage) and the feedback i received from the agency afterwards suggested i would have got the job but they were looking for someone less experienced and technical.

I had something similar to this once, went to an interview for an IT related job and had one of the best interviews i have done (normally bad at these kinda things) and the guy at the end just said

"I would love to hire you but we already have someone for the job, I just wanted to see if you were interested and how you would do in the interview"

I was like:confused::confused::mad:

Told him after that, he just wasted my time and its no way for a manager to act, clearly showing my rage at him.

Wow... that's pretty out of order tbh. I'd be furious if that happened to me (considering your loss of pay/holiday while you're attending the interview) :mad:

So he decided to waste your time? What an incredible *****.

BWAH?!?!?!? Interviewer makes no sense. Not hiring someone because they'd do more than a good job is pure insanity!

from the interviewers point of view is it going to be any good if they employ someone, spend the money and time training them up to use their particular systems and then have the employee leave after a short amount of time due to the job not stretching them, or is it better to employ someone who will find it a challenge and something that's going to stretch them and stay longer as a result?

may dad got this when he left uni 13 or so with a degree in economics, applied for every job under the sun fairly good interviews but with results either;
overqualified (will find it boring, wont want to do the job long term etc (despite this not being the case))
or under-experienced

just checked the company's website and the vacancy i applied for "Support Engineer Level 1" has been taken down :(

but there is another vacancy for a "Support Engineer Level 2" which is similar to level 1 but with more responsibilities but the only downside is i need to have had experience with MS SQL server which i dont have but im sure i can pick it up in no time and i do tick all of the other boxes

dont know why the agency or interviewer didn't consider me for this role

how do i go about asking them to consider me for this other vacancy without sounding overly desperate

i do have some dignity left :(

I would have complained to the company management about that.

The other week i applied for exactly the same job but at a company in my town. After a week i got a email saying there was a lot of interest in the position and they weren't going to give me a interview. I felt pretty low for a few days.
My girlfriend works at the same place and it turns out they didnt interview anyone. Idiots.

Quite often companies will tell rejects that there was a great deal of interest in the job / the quality of applications was very high etc even when that simply isn't the case.

It's more of an excuse than anything.
