I had my alloys refurbished in November by the company I purchased the car from (I didn't pay for the refurbishment they done the work as part of me buying the car). The alloys have started to flake, some from the centre of the wheel and one from the outside, I've noticed that this week after a clean.

Would I be right in taking it back to them and telling them to re-do them? 3-4 months isn't that long for that sort of thing to happen in my eyes... :o

Cheers.

I would imagine it comes with a 12 month warranty, just like most stuff in the UK.

They did some work for you and they have done a quick, shoddy job. You didn't pay for it, so that means they can do a crud job?

I would go back and get them done again, properly, for free.

they'll only do the same again.

I personally would approach them and ask for cash contribution towards you getting them properly shotblasted, stripped, repainted and the paint properly baked overnight.

if they dont, then just go to the wheel specialist anyway. You'll only be going backwards and forwards with it failing on the cheap jobs, which is what they do when they thrown in "a refurb" for free.

See I was thinking of just getting them done by a different company anyway because of those reasons MrLOL.

But ideally I don't want to spend a huge chunk of money if I don't have to...

I may get them to do them again this time and take the route of asking for a cash contribution if it happens again.

So I took it to the garage for them to have a look at today...

The guy told me the flaking was because of chemical corrosion, basically using harsh products to clean the wheels. I know of only once this was done since i've had the car and that was the day I noticed it was happening.

Anyway, they said they would probably do them again and will give me a call about it, what do you guys think about this corrosion on the alloys?

I'll put my money on him fobbing you off.

Unless you had some paint thinner on the wheels then I cannot think of any product that would cause wheels to flake that quickly.

Also what does he mean 'probably'?

it is a very common cause, its quite easy to blame as the kosovan car washes etc.. do use some horribly acidic wheel cleaner.

They said they would "probably" do them again, doesnt sound too positive. In other words what they mean is they'll see how cheaply they can get them done. Dont bother, it will just do the same and they'll get fed up of seeing you. Ask for a cash contribution to get them done properly. If they refuse, doesnt matter, a full proper shotblast and wheels off job is only £250 for a set anyway.

I got mine done by Lepsons in Gillingham. Cost over £400 for the 4 wheels, but the finish is incredible:

Guaranteed for a year, but I doubt I'll have any problems for a LONG while yet (wheel were stripped back).

Was it a proper refurb or just a paint touch up with lacquer? As that's what ford did to mine, but they didn't charge. So mine are due to be fully refurb'd properly in the next 3 months.
