Gun Enthusiasts In Here.

300m? Real men don't get out of bed for less than 600m.

You're right about the Lee-Enfield though: a basic, but robust piece of kit, with superb accuracy. I used to use them at 200 and 500 yards in cadets, but that was a very long time ago. For anyone who understands, I got second place in the Wellington one year at Bisley.

Something I've always wanted to try.
Do you have to own your own gun in most clubs or do they have 'pool' ones you can use?
Any suggestions on the best way to get started shooting as a hobby?
I also notice mentioned pistols and SMGs. I thought you could no longer own these legally in the UK?

Anyone know if suspended sentences apply to "Fitness to possess" for the check?

You would have to check with your local firearms licensing with regards to suspended sentences.

if you receive a custodial sentence of more than 3 months but less than 3 years, you cannot possess a firearm or shotgun ( even an air weapon ) for 5 years.

If your sentence is 5 years or more then you are prohibited for life.

I understand that it is illegal to own an automatic weapon in the U.K but is it possible to still use one at a range with a gun club? I'd love to give an SA80 a go. Shotguns only give so much entertainment...

Won't happen mate. Fully automatic weapons are illegal in the UK as are semi-automatic. Even if a soldier offered a go of an SA80 at a range, I would be breaking the law and would be slammed with the full weight of UK gun laws which are amongst the most strict in the world.

If you want to go fully auto, it will take a trip abroad. I rattled off a couple of mags on an M-16A2 a few years back in Las Vegas.
