I think we all might be missing something - that Nic Cage is in fact, possibly one of the unintentionally funniest actors currently alive.

I submit for evidence...

His latest film Bad Lieutenant (from 1.30 on):

Windtalkers:

My personal favourite, Wickerman:

Face Off:

I honestly think, in years to come, people will look back in amazement at what this man has done for acting.

^^ LOL, good choices.

I think people will look back in amazement at the number of people who actually paid real money to watch films in which this man featured.

Even when he's dead, he'll have trouble playing a corpse.

Cage is one of my favourite actors.

Granted, there are much more skilled actors out there but he's consistent.

Loved national treasure 1 and 2.

I highly doubt that tbh, some of the films he's been in are decent enough I agree, but never because of his acting performances.

He always does the same character anyway doesn't he? :p

Like him as an actor...fair enough he isnt going to win any oscars for his acting etc but i thought bad lieutenant was pretty good and funny at the same time...he must have been on some drugs when doing that movie...i mean in real life lol.

Always have enjoyed his movies although he comes across as being pretty strange in real life...didnt he marry Elvis Presleys daughter so that he could get his hands on his collection or something:confused:

But compared to Keanu Reeves id rather pay to go see him.

He's one of my favourites although there's no disputing that he comes across as unintentionally funny in a lot of his movies. It simply HAS to be unintentional when you look at the content of the movie and then what he says / how he says it. :D

LOL @ The Wickerman. I've never seen the movie and I was close to wetting myself there!

The thread title should be "Best stiff actor of our generation?" ;)

That last video is fantastic :)

I don't hate Cage at all, he's in a lot of mindless action films, and he plays the characters as you'd expect (mindlessly :p)

Con Air and The Rock are perfect examples..

I really liked him in Bringing out the Dead

Story goes that City Of Angels was such a flop on large screens because most of the US cinemas had to discontinue showing it due to to number of items, furniture and beverage thrown at the screen every time Nicolas Kim Coppola, pardon me - *Cage* - made that Dawson's Creek face to Meg Ryan. The man is also known as talent sinker - along with Dolph Lundgren and Val Kilimer he is one of the very few people, who can, unintentionally, regardless of previous achievements and awards, bring entire cast, screenplay and even directors down to uniquely low levels turning unsinkable casting and stories into ultimate stinkers. Even if it's story about World Trade Center. Some coworkers never recover their careers. I believe it is known in cinema circles as "The Curse of Cage's Toupe".

He's not really stiff though, how many actors do you see pulling wierd faces like him?

He's just suddenly randomnly animated.
