1Ghz 5870 18% faster than GTX480 in Heaven with Tessellation off!

Same as from the thread linked in the first post 1920x1080.

About the same...

Ah well I'll still keep my two GTX260s :D

Fixed ;) We all know how good they are. In fact overclocked like yours are, they match or better a gtx295.

Which means that the new gtx480 is much slower in dx10 than your gtx260's or a gtx295.

I just guess it's down to how much game developers make use of dx11 as to whether it will evr be worth the upgrade for you.

I won't be rushing out to get a 400 series card, my plan is to either wait til I need DX11 or the nVidia refresh. Tho we were just told we hit the upper end of the target needed for a bonus at work so if I have some spare cash I might grab a couple of 470s for the hell of it.

Rroff must do some 3d gaming or something, else I'm sure he would have sold off his 260's for OC'd 5850 giving him the same performance, less heat, less power, less noise & DX11
And used the left over cash to put against getting an SSD...

Rroff likes and needs his CUDA otherwise I am sure he would.

pretty funny fanboy stuff, so you turn off the benchmarks biggest feature, overclock your card by 18% and its faster than a gtx 480!

pretty much the same as saying run the infamous batman game turn phsyx on and a 8800gt is faster than a 5870

I've got to agree with this, although perhaps not the tone :D

Saying "look you can overclock a card by 18% and turn off a feature it's not great at and it beats the oppositions stock card!" is just pants.

Lol at your 260's! You obviously haven't worked out that a 5850 can clock way past the speed of a stock 5870!
Research better next time please...

I already have SSDs

I don't really use CUDA that much, tho I dabble a little just to have some knowledge there.

I prefer the control panel on nVidia drivers and the ability to tweak things with nHancer. Also prefer the AA implementation - somewhat a personal thing but AA on ATI cards I still perceive jaggies in motion unless I turn it right up, whereas 4x AA on nVidia is fine for me. Also my gaming PC has an nForce SLI board so I'd have to change that out as well for crossfire. Theres a few other reasons too including the fact I do a bit of development with PhysX tho looks like we are moving to ODE now.

Oh and another thing - its far less hassle using my 120Hz TFT with an nVidia card :D

OC'd 5850 = 260 SLI performance, really...?

Depends - overall they slightly out perform a 5870 but in some cases like crysis they are close to the 5850.

Never, 260s in SLi are around 295GTX speeds, and the 295 is around 5870 performance if not a little more, especially when clocked.

Yep. Talked to death and proven here:

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/sh...56&highlight=5850+overclocked+username_Greebo

At the same core speeds a 5870 is only 6% faster than a 5850. Overclock the 5850 by 6% or more and it matches it.

In fact a 1000Mhz core 5850 is around 6 to 7% faster than a stock 5870.

Therefore a 1000Mhz overclocked 5850 is as fast or faster than a gtx295 and hence 260's in SLI.

I get pretty similar framerates to RRoff in the Heaven benchmark.

TBH most of us in the know will be waiting for the refresh, if they sort out all the issues it will def be a card to look at :)

I don't think anyone with half a brain will be rushing out to buy a 480 at it's projected performance rate...

Seriously you're not going to get anywhere on these forums with your ongoing trolling and flamebaiting. Is there really any need for your constant juvenile sarcastic comments, please get a grip as you're not doing yourself any favours

I suggest you do some better research, as all the data is out there for people to see. You do realise that GTX 260s can be overclocked too right?
