Nicolas Cage - Best comedy actor of our generation?

One of the few actors who I want to watch every film by.
He does it for me even though he is funny when he doesn't mean to be.
Or is it a double bluff on all of us?

I thought he was epic in Matchstick men, just the kind of quirky role he excels at, but yeah, you can guarantee there's at least one scene in his movies that just down right dies in flames with lol factor......unless it's the Wickerman, thats just wrong on so many levels it should be used as a case study for new actors on what NOT to do on film.

I like Nicolas Cage as he plays the same guy in every film, so every film he's in is more like the next in a documentary series following some guy's life.

One year he's an arms trader, then he gets bored of that and tries his hand at reading the weather instead.

OK he's had his slating for his acting, and somewhat rightly so, but he has made some good films.

What's your favourite Nic Cage film?

Raising Arizona (hopefully soon to be Kick-Ass)

I find it funny that everyone is the missing the point that Directors obviously instruct him to pull the stupid faces and perform all his quirks.
He might actually find it embarrassing watching it back but if it puts a few more million in his bank account then stuff the critics.

It's not his faces or quirks I dislike, it's his acting, and I don't see the directors saying 'act as if you can't act' to him :p

Don't get me wrong, I don't mind Cage tbh, I like a few films he's in, I just don't think he can be regarded as a top rate actor, comedy or otherwise.

I doubt it, he had to have done the face before for the director to ask him to do it, and you dont see so many other actors as animated as him.

EXACTLY - here's your contract for the film cage, it says you have to pull at least 50 stupid faces per film which is still a 1/10 that Jim Carrey does.
Directors simply wouldn't leave the faces/quirks in if they didn't think it would sell.

He used to be good, or maybe I was too young to realise how bad he was, but at some stage he just started doing every awful film going, every terrible script and became an embarassement to acting, and hair pieces.

Windtalkers is the only film I've ever walked out on and actually complained and got my money back because it was sooo soo bad, about 10 minutes in.

He's not done anything even close to good in ages, both National Treasures are painfully bad films, as was, was it Next, or something like that, where he could see the future......... terrible film.

He's in a huge amount of money troubles though isn't it, bad property/business deal after bad deal, and wasting money on cars that get repossessed. I get the feeling he used to pick decent scripts and was okay in them, then at some point was desparate so took a big paycheck for a terrible film and his career went downhill from then.

Personally liked Raising Arizona, Red Rock West, Leaving Las Vegas, The Rock, Con Air, Face/Off, 8MM, Bringing Out The Dead and Gone In Sixty Seconds. Faves in bold.

So yeah, nothing in the last ten years :)

He's a good actor but recent years hes made bad decisions movie wise which we now know why, he had huge debts and wanted to keep the lifestyle he was running so he said yes to many awful films which in turn has ruined his image.

I actually quite like him especially in Face Off and The Rock, that new one he's in looks quite good too.

LOL at the Wickerman moments though "Not the bees! My eyes, my eyes! Arg*gurgle*hrry", never actually seen that film but it looks awful :p
