Hi Guys,

Have a 2001 honda accord which has been misfiring a lot. Engine managment light has come on a few times.

Had it booked in for a check with main dealer last week, who diagnosed the problem as being;

Investigated for misfire, checked leads - found all to be tracking from distributor, checked fuel signal - (injector switching) Checked number 4 injector - Open circuit.

Requires injector, leads and distributor cap.

Been quoted £350 for the injector inc fitting.

I am going to try and change this myself with a second hand one. Question is, which injector is number 4? Do I count from left to right or other way?

A mechanic told me that the cables may be labelled but only cables labelled 1 2 3 4 are the spark plugs.

Any advice on changing the injector and which one could be number 4?

In the back of mind I am also thinking what if a new injector doesnt solve the problem, but hey thats afterthought.

Thanks

Thanks for the heads up, I took out 4 injectors from another car of which i will be putting one back in mine. Did it slow so as remembering process to do mine, was able to do a trial run on the other car.
Just need to know which one is deemed as injector 4. Just hope my dealers version of 4 is same as other mechanics.

If you need to ask this question i would suggest you find a local independent garage to carry out the work for you.

I think it's a perfectly valid question....

if you really dont know, you could change No.1 if that doesnt solve the problem change No.4 a bit more work but providing their fault analasis is correct it should fix it.

I dont know about your car specificaly but on changing the injector there could be many ways it is put in, on one of mine the fuel rail has to come out then the injector is bolted in from the back. on my other car it's just a push fit....

bullit

Thanks Guys, guess you mean where the cam belt is. I think this does carry with the injector pattern, need to confirm tomorrow.

Correct in that the fuel rail needs to come out, each injector has 3 seals, have to take all 4 off the rail to change one injector, which means having to change all 4 injector seals.

Reckon will need to get some carb cleaner to clean the rail out just to make sure no crap is left in there.

Thanks for the help, all advice welcomed.

Err before you go down the injector route have you actually changed the leads
The above quote tells me they are all fubar

No not looked at the leads, doesnt all tracking from distributer mean they are okay? I thought they did.

Honda said to make sure whilst changing a injector they always change the ignition leads as well as HT leads

LOL, they are having you over..

No, tracking means the leads are arcing out at the dizzy cap, Might be worth getting one of those too.

Change the leads first and report back

£350 for the one injector and fitting? pmsl

I could fit four brand new bosch injectors to my car for less than £80.

£197 just for 1 injector then the labour charge as well as seals cost.

Okay, let me gets this right, pull the leads out which go into the spark plugs, turn the ignition on as if to start the car, all 4 leads should give off a spark inside the cable?

Go and start it up in the dark and see if you can see any blue dancing lights around the leads then.

Wont tell you for certain but if it's that bad you should see something

take all the HT leads off, and one by one stick a spark plug in them. don't lick the spark or anything, some 10kv in there

be worth disconnecting fuel pump so you don't flood things (take out the fuse reffer to your manual)

Both, dont know engine managment code.

Was it not on the printout from main dealer ?

Would certainly help trace exact cylinder without getting grubby (assuming hondas ECU is intelligent enough for that being 2001 ):)

Anyway.. more info on the misfiring.

Is it constantly misfiring (running on three cylinders or less) or just coughing occasionally.

Sorry for not getting back to you guys.

All the dealer told me was the injector issue, dont think they put it on the computer as they diagnosed the misfire issue.

Misfires when idle, seems like coughing.

I picked up 4 second hand injectors for £10, stripped the rail out today.

Will clean the injectors tomorrow and refit with new O seals.

Have new HT leads on order, only 13 quid.

Take it from there.
