Hargreaves comeback confirmed

As for Man Utd I think any involvement he could have will be a bonus but we've certainly never relied on him
True, but given your defensive frailties at points this season, and remembering that he was a perfectly able full back before his injury, I was just wondering whether desperation could force Ferguson to play him, were you to pick up other absences.

Well hopefully yesterday was the start of getting a back four of Brown/Rafael - Ferdinand - Vidic - Evra back for good

O'Shea is apparently going to return soon as well so things are looking up (fingers crossed)

I've just got that suspicion that he's finished to be honest, to take so long to get fit again I can see him pulling up again at some point and being out for another 6-12months.

Yeah, I really hope that he makes a decent and lengthy comeback but I just can't see it happening.

I thought O'Shea was just a fringe player, a jack of all trades master of non

Well he was first choice RB all last season and the first couple of months this, no one has nailed down that position since he's been gone so it's quite conceivable that when he's back he'll go back in the team

Hargreaves is a fantastic player, him and Joe Cole were England's only stars in WC 2006.

Can't wait to see him back and maybe he has enough time to get into the England squad and Capello has only been a fan of Owen.

Anyone who thinks Hargreaves isnt (or possibly wasnt) a very decent player in 2006 WC and after needs their eyes testing imo, easily best defensive mid England (and Man Utd) have had in a good long while , but thanks to Bayern completely messing up his rehab during his last season in Germany Utd signed a crock

Even despite that Utd wouldnt have won in Moscow without him - he was that influential in that match (probably his single best performance in a Utd shirt), and he did pretty well throughout that season even if he did only play 20 or so times in that season

Way too late to make WC 2010, he wont get the significant match time unfortunately but any progress is good news and I only wish him the best whether thats with Man Utd or not

With Wes Brown having a broken metatarsel /foot, OShea probably out for the season anyway, Fletcher wasted in a defender role, Its between Gary Nevile (god forbid), the twins (fabio fit again?) and possibly OH depending on how this run out goes with the reserves for the remianing games at RB . De Laet has also played over at RB but he is better LB I seem to recall

Good news this.... Cant wait for him to make a comeback. Of course he wont be the same player again, but if he can play a few matches before end of season then il be happy with that.

the groany-ad but no reason not to believe it unfortunately

I think thats probably killed off his top flight career - which is a crying shame, he was an immense player. He lived and breathed Utd, but we will have to buy a decent box to box player in the summer as currently there arent any on the books with the same tackling ability and energy , without even considering his versatility. I really feel for him because he deserved better

(Fletcher is nearly the same but no where near as versatile, or imo as good as OH in their natural position)

Would Hargreaves replace Fletcher if one day he gets his fitness and form back, or would they play together?

Doesnt look like it will ever happen - but imo OH would replace Fletcher, but I guess depending on formation SAF wanted to play you could have for instance OH playing as in Moscow as a attacking right winger and defending midfielder (although of course now Utd have Valencia) , or 5 man midfield with lets say Fletcher, OH and Carrick/ Scholes

OH's versatility could (have) allow(ed) for many different options

I dont think Fletcher long term would be replaced by anyone (bar us signing Fabregas maybe but even then I think Fletcher's proven in the big games to be a real difference to us)

At one point I always thought that Hargreaves would be the long term replacement to Ronaldo out on the right seeing as that's where he played in the latter stages of our champions league winning season but Valencia has come on leaps and bounds this season so I dont think anyone will be taking that position from him

I think at this stage Hargreaves would just be part of the squad and rotated like Anderson, Scholes & Giggs with Carrick and Fletch being first choice for the majority of games

Firstly OH played defensive mid AND right winger in Moscow, not just right winger, and secondly where was Fletcher when OH was on the pitch (when OH had an injury disrupted season he was still chosen ahead of Fletcher)

No way if everything being equal would Fletcher be ahead (great player but no where near as good as OH)
