The Love Police on being stop searched under Section 44

The law does what it wants to do when they want to do it. There will always be a reason a police officer will get you if they really want too. The world is full of hypocritical people who do what they want when they want. Regards to that video clip I 100% agree with what they said and did. Freedom.

Reminds me of a similar ilk of a chap protesting at G8 in 2005 when he decided to lie across a busy main road and read a book and I happened to be nearest.

' Touch me and I will sue. '

' Leave you to get squashed and I will get sued even more. '

He got up.

Even more bizarre I was having a good crack on with him at the side of the road for 10 minutes after that. I think I gave him a KitKat as well come to think of it as he roughed it in a field all night.

At the OP, there are always some who will try and turn things about, muddy the water and try and confuse you. I find that learning the laws you are paid to enforce helps quite a lot.

Section 44, I believe, is a useful piece of legislation when and if the need arises for it but it should still be intel led and not abused. This is sadly not the case.

I had to do a piece on the terrorism act recently and as von smallhausen says S.44 is a useful piece of legislation when used correctly.
However its only supposed to be used for a certain length of time when deemed to be necessary but London have been continuously renewing it so its been in effect since about 2001.
It was deemed illegal in january by the ECHR but its still available for police to use.
Definetely needs to be repealed or amended!

Searches under the section you bolded are ONLY authorised when they think it will stop a terrorist act, not, because they just want to stop someone.

They SHOULD have the power to stop anyone if they think they are being suspicious or involved in terrorism.

However cops shouldn't and can't, as in its illegal to just use it as a blanket reason to stop and search anyone they choose. As in that video, the part I could bear to watch he said he wanted to search him under act 44, when asked what gives him the reasoning under act 44, he went "well, ummm, I dunno, I just want to search you".

Thats just not acceptable, literally, by the letter of the law that cop HAS TO have sufficient grounds to think someone is a terrorist, he clearly did not think he was a terrorist but simply wanted to search him so said he thought he was.
No **** Sherlock. But note how it is worded. If the officer had some brains he could come up with some stupid story about why he suspects him. Which highlights how easy S44 is to use as a carte blanche, although not with that - presumuably senior- officer. Stupid guy to honest - should know his laws.

I don't think the guy from Love Police was annoying at all but I know some of you here will think so and knew this before I even posted the thread, I just wanted to see how many.

The guy had a pretty valid point and he and his people obviously know what they're doing and have been doing it for a while now hence why they succeeded in excising their rights as a British Citizen - Perhaps some of you should value that right sometimes as well!

It just seems anyone who has an opposing view around here is automatically a fool and annoying - shame.

As I've said above, anyone that goes against the grain, or exercises their rights isn't neccesarily annoying.

Being annoying is an independent characteristic. In the videos, both the protagonists are being annoying. Ultaimtely they're being petulant and have an inflated sense of self-importance. All my opinion based on their videos, of course.

There is having opposing views and there is being a rebel. One is a douchebag, one isn't. You take your pick.

Well if they were not how they were in the video(s) then they would have been searched, would have had their details taken and would have been given formal or verbal warnings or whatever the Police give out these days - I don't know I've never been stopped.

The guys were never rude, never swore, in fact they themselves were sworn at in the gate area by the palace staff which they said they got on tape and they explained everything to the T - Obviously they were slightly annoyed, I too would be annoyed if I went to speak freely completely legally and without disturbing the peace only to be told to f off then have an officer demand I be searched and give my details.

So youre telling me that the police who stuttered to not think of a good come back to search the guy under Section 44, he should have used the law and twisted it and said he was committing an offense?

This is why section 44 is ridiculous in this way because the police can twist anything into something thats not. Thats not what S44 is nor is that how it works, and this is why if there was a terrorist act happening, they wouldnt and wont even be able to handle it and stop it before it happens because theyre too busy stopping people like the guy in the video doing nothing wrong and putting him under Section 44.

Obviously the 3 guys in the video has done their research and know what their (our) human rights are, even if they think pulling a S44 on them would do the trick. I think in future when Im out in London taking photos, its probably a wise idea to print out Section 44 and highlight what a we as civilian can and can not do, and what a police officer can and can not do. If a police officer wants to challenge what is printed on paper and try to twist anything of the situation then his name and badge number is going down.

I'd rather be a criminal and not draw attention to it ¬_¬

*pervs through windows*

Only joking!

What on earth do you keep doing that means you keep coming into contact with them?

I've no idea if the police 'annoy me' or not because I cannot remember the last time I had cause to speak to them!

There's always a huge police presence around here. They drive around like they're dons and really helping to stop crime. Even the community support walks around like it's useful.

One example is there was one officer searching random students who wanted to enter our college one lunchtime. I found this utterly pointless and time-wasting because why would someone willingly walk right into him with illegal things in their pockets? Yep, he caught none of the drug dealers.

Neither do I but it doesn't stop me being from being annoyed sometimes when I see them do something completely pointless. Or in the tv shows that follow them, to listen what nonescence sometimes comes out of their mouths.

Though the worst are the officers of justice...

You don't have to be in contact with them to be annoyed they are screwing other people over who are less on their guard for them. I'm not saying I'm annoyed whenever I see a police car, I am highly annoyed when I see them checking all mopeds for max speed screwing all 16 and 17 year olds over, or lasering unsuspecting motorists on a road where the speed limit makes no sense at all, and fining helpful motorists who warm people from the other direction for cops by flashing their lights... Or plainly saying one thing to the media, and them doing the exact opposite in a few weeks again. I actually like seeing police patrolling the street rather than collecting more tax at the side of the road... So far they haven't been able to catch me, that day will easily come but at the moment, I can literally see them standing from a mile away long before they'd ever notice someone like me.

This is a good thing imo ? Having a Huge visible presence.
