So i'm on the lookout for a new phone, and have shortlisted it down to two phones, the E63 and the BB 8520.

I can get the E63 for about £120, and the 8520 for £145 after TCB (does anyone know how long the well known phone company are keeping this offer on for?).

I'm using the top-up £10 and get unlimited texts and internet next month allowance, so if i were to get the E63, i'd have to unlock it meaning my warranty is void?

I will primarily be using the phone to text, and i'll be using the internet now and again. I have fairly large hands so ease and comfortability of texting is kind of my main factor, along with ease of use of the phone in general, but i don't think that'll be a problem on either phone.

How does using the internet on each phone compare? Pretty similar?

So which one?

Cant say anything about the Nokia as i dont know anything about it and im the resident BB man here:p. But the 8520 is a great entry level phone for people making the jump into the world of BB's...just be aware that its very basic ie doesnt have a built in gps etc...for that you would need to jump to the 8900 curve.

But saying that they are great for texting and its bread and butter is email...to get the full BB experience you would need the BB addon or BIS as its called and that will set you back an extra £5 depending on who your with....but using the BB without the BIS isnt worth it in all honesty...the internet wont work and neither will push email amongst other things like certain apps on the phone so unless your willing to shell out an extra £5 a month then i wouldnt look at the BB.

Also the internet on the 8520 isnt super fast...it isnt even a 3G phone so will be slow and cumbersome and the browser on the BB's arent exactly reknown to be the best...so i wouldnt recommend a BB purely on web browsing...but there will be a new BB browser out soon...no idea as to when though.

So browsing on the E63 will be better and faster?

And if i weren't to get this BIS thing then i can't use the internet at all?

I dont know if it will be any faster or better tbh as i dont use Nokia devices and havent done for a very long time but i would imagine its not great at it.

Without BIS no it will not work...again thats what ive been told...you would really need to talk to your provider and see what they say but yes without the BIS it wont work ie data...if thats the case then stick to the Nokia in all honesty.

Alright then. Thanks.
Yeah i guess i'll be going with the E63 then because i don't want to spend an extra £5 a month for the BIS.
The E63 is probably the best qwerty phone for the price right?

I went down this road about 6 months ago (E63 v 8520) and went for the Blackberry. I can back up everything that Spawn has said (ideal for email & texting but just alright for browsing - although that is exactly what I wanted). I'd recommend the BB, even if its just for the support you'll get on here and over at Crackberry.

Yep if your not going to spend the extra for the BB addon then theres really no point in getting one but saying that its worth paying the extra as the BB is a very nice capable device and will do everything you throw at it with ease. Although as i said the 8520 is a very basic BB, it doesnt have a built in gps for one.

You see it probably is worth just an extra £5, but i don't need it, so it wouldn't bother me not having it and i'd rather save my money. But i get where you are coming from. I think the E63 it is though, as i only use my phone for texting, calls and internet.

my gf has the E63 and its a little beast , it does almost everything you could ask for. But the screen is horrible

What about the screen is horrible?

Ive never had a problem viewing my e63 under sunlight and find it runs the little amount of net I used on it fine (just the odd look on facebook). For texting its great, although Id imagine the blackberry is the same.

The resolution is the same as my current phone so i'll cope. Just looked, the 8520 and E63 has the same resolution so yeah. And it's england, what sun? :p
