JR Motorsport and Sumo Power Open Day (56k and Jap Haters need not apply!)

Quite. How has a garage nobody has ever heard of got a facility like that?

Nice though, but they have a way to go to catch up with TRIAL ;)

Oh, and that Silvia, not seen it before, a new build for 2010?

I'm guessing if they're dealing with motorsport projects such as prepping wrc cars and FIA GT cars, its not the sort of place your likely to hear a lot about. And thats probably how they are affording a pretty incredible place.

Absolutely lost for words. Incredible. Absolutely incredible.

My only thought is just how are they going to generate enough work to fund all that?!

I can't answer that accurately, but they've been involved in the motorsport industry for some time, and obviously their acquisitions have given them significant experience in many areas.

They're staff are top notch and their guys we spoke with yesterday are incredibly well experienced, confident and well travelled.

I've no doubt that they will become reknowned in the industry once they get going, it's probably the only place my Evo will go for work.

Nismo would not have moved on site unless they were totally confident in their abilities.

Can't really tell you any more about the S15, first i've seen/heard of it too!

It's weird looking at the drag car. I remember sitting in it when it was a completely stock evo 8, many, many moons ago!

This is pretty much bang on the money although the FIA GT work is very recent.

Sumo Power is obviously a reknowned parts supplier and coupled with the services they can offer, it presents a formidable service line.

These guys (Mark at least) post over at GTROC, I have to admit I never knew they had facilities like that and only cropped up on my radar as they exclusively stock R888s for the GT-R. The place looks really impressive and I'm tempted to visit now. That GT-R is running a smidge over 600 useable and easily deployable bhp with a simple kit and Sumo exhaust :)

Any idea what is happening to the R35 on the lift (last picture)?

No idea, but it's fully caged. Perhaps a spare shell for the GT cars. I'll try to find out, but he's difficult to get hold of at the moment as you can imagine!

anymore of the skip?

Only this one with my mates in it i'm afraid

Cheers. I called them today to ask about popping along to have a chat about some work on the car, I'm pretty impressed at the scope and scale of this place. You should be on commision.

seems like a nice comming together

Sumo Power appear to have the logistical background and customer base to actually sell stuff to customers. Whereas JR motorsport appear to have come from a technical background creating drag cars.

Sumo power wanted to decrease its reliance on foreign parts so wanted somebody with technical knowledge to make them. Seems like a good matchup.

I suspect this is where most of the money comes from, as i cant imagine competing in drag racing etc.. makes the company much money. There isnt the sponsorship or TV money that sports like WRC and F1 have.

Hehe, the place really speaks for itself. Would totally recommend you heading down - they'll be happy to show you around, as you can imagine they are understandably proud of the place.

Jim is a great guy, I see him very infrequently, but despite all of this stuff, he's a down to earth guy, and he has time for everyone, and its very obvious that he is totally behind this company and very customer oriented.

Even if I didn't know him, this would be where i'd take my car, you'll know when you go there but they've total confidence in their abilities and its very confidence inspiring from a customer perspective.

I really should mention at this point that I don't work for JRM, never have and (unfortunately) probably never will. I don't speak for them, and any info I know may not be 100% accurate. I'd always advise you speak to them directly about any queries, they'll obviously be happy to help.

I'm a lot closer to them these days so hopefully I'll get over there in April maybe. This is a very slippery slope...
