Best way to upgrade to Win7?

My mother blew too much money on a rival's PC a while ago which came with Vista and an upgrade to Win7.
I keep badgering her to upgrade but she hasn't.
Anyway, I sorted some driver issues for her the other day and noticed Vista feels so clunky and unwieldy compared to Win7. So I put my foot down and got her in a headlock that cut off her breathing until she agreed to upgrade (She held out a lot longer than I expected for a 60yr old).
So, I'm just wondering what you guys would suggest as the best way to upgrade? I have only installed Win7 from scratch before and don't want any issues on my Mother's machine for obvious reasons.
Is there any way to perform a clean install using MY retail disc and HER OEM key?
Does it make any difference if I uninstall all the clutter before I upgrade?
Or is the upgrade a simply painless process that I'm worrying too much about?

You mean double install?
Nah, I've really got to do this by the book.
Main thing I'm wondering is if it's OK to use her upgrade key to validate my retail cd? Is the checking for previous software thing part of the disc or the key checking algorithm?
And if I have to upgrade from Vista is it a painless proccess or does it pay to have less on the system when you upgrade?

Cheers.:D

If you have the upgrade CD from her machine, boot from it, and choose custom installation, delete the partition and re-format.. Though its an upgrade, it will see that you already have a version of Windows installed and will allow you to do a clean install..

DO NOT UPGRADE.

Old versions required you had the old cd to hand. Not any longer though.

Many thanks thedoc46.
So... boot from upgrade CD, format and install and all is well?
Does that mean it's checked for an existing OS before install options?

Yes. When the setup program loads it checks to see if there is a prior OS that qualifies for an Upgrade. Once it sees your Vista installation it will make a note of it and then you can go ahead and nuke the partition.

The double-install method, which is supported by Microsoft..sort of, is not needed here since you have the previous OS installed.
