Oscar Nominations

Is it wrong I find Kathryn Bigalow quite hot? She is older than my mum.

Bet JC is about to have a coronary heart attack. His ex has really done a number on him tonight.

The Hurt Locker took home 6 Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director - the first for a female director! The full list of awards: Original Screenplay (Mark Boal), Sound Editing (Paul N.J. Ottosson), Sound Mixing (Paul N.J. Cameron must be in his own personal hurt locker by now. :p

Now I want to watch The Hurt Locker to see what all the fuss is about. :)

I didnt really rate it. I appreciate it for what it was. It was pretty intense in places, but it was about an hour too long, i think.

Interesting and somewhat unexpected results.

The Hurt Locker is a good film, but for me it no real lasting impression, and it lost me a bit towards the end. It is definitely worth seeing, but this isn't a film that will be talked about for years to come. I have no major issue with it beating Avatar for best picture though.

Avatar is an amazing achievement, but i'd have mixed feelings it winning best picture. I found the story to be tedious although overall the film was hugely enjoyable.

Personally I would be tempted to give the best Director oscar to Cameron as Avatar is a real achievement and pushes forward cinema.

Although I can't say i've seen all of the films nominated anyway.

I'm extremely disappointed with best director and best picture going to the Hurt Locker, but I'm absolutely made up that Jeff Bridges won best actor. I was so happy when I saw that he's finally won an oscar, and he did a great speech and is just such a great guy.

Other pleasing results include Christoph Waltz, who rightly swept the board and Up for best animated feature.

Not seen it... Any care to comment on how good they thought it was?

Good but not really stunning. Someone said its supposed to be one of the best war films ever made - clealy wrong and I wouldn't say it was THE best middle eastern war films ever made.

Best Picture IMO (from the ones I've seen) would be District 9. Its the only one that truly did something different.

I think Christoph Waltz in Inglorius was superb.

While I have to say that Avatar was probably the best movie of the year for me that I have enjoyed watching the most due to it's 3D LOL factor etc I have to agree that it didn't deserve to win the Best Picture nominations.

It's a tricky one isn't! It's clearly got a lot of (quality) problems, but saying that, it's the only film I've been to see more than once at the cinema in probably over 10yrs!

In my opinion:

Best Picture - District 9
Best Director - James Cameron for Avatar

That's what I would have liked to have seen. I think James Cameron's direction, drive and innovation really should have earned him the Oscar, I think he was robbed tbh. Don't get me wrong, I think The Hurt Locker was a decent film, I did enjoy it and I thought the direction was good. However, comparing the achievements of the two, I think it really should have been a different result.
