The members of a gang believed to have been responsible for almost half the caravan thefts in the UK over a three-year period were jailed today.

Charlie Ward, 28, Martin Ward, 21, John McDonagh, 31, and Martin McDonagh, 29, all members of the same family, were found to be in possession of more than £700,000 worth of stolen caravans, cars, motor homes, jewellery and cash when police detained them.

After they were arrested in Wiltshire in 2007, the number of caravan thefts fell from 848 to 454 in a year.

Shocking that it takes 400 thefts before the police can catch them, with the amount of CCTV on Britain's road network these days I would imagine it should have been quite easy.

The men, who travelled between the UK and Ireland, showed no emotion as the sentences were handed down.

Let's hope British justice finally grows a backbone and sends these disgusting pigs down for a long time.

I can't believe it was travellers, surely it would say in the article if they were wouldn't it? Plus according to a recent Channel 4 documentary, travellers are "the most moral" group of people on the planet.

From the very article you linked:

Martin McDonagh and Charlie Ward, both fathers of five, were sentenced to four years and five years to be served consecutively for two conspiracies. John McDonagh and Martin Ward received four years for their part in one of the conspiracies.

So up to you if you think that is long enough.

steal - sell - profit? have you seen some of the "cop" shows on bbc iplayer? Thats all they do.. same with trucks, cars etc.

Doh missed that, so the two ring leaders got 9 years and the other two got 4 years. Not too bad, you get less for that for murder these days. The problem is you never know how much of their sentences they're actually going to serve thanks to the early release scheme.

Someone tried to nick my mum's caravan, didn't notice that the jockey wheel at the front was missing until she had a go at me for not realising sooner. I didn't see what I could have done at the time anyway...

Now its got a lock on the wheels, but still get people (travelers) asking if its "for sale".
