*** Final Fantasy XIII ***

I am going to start playing the game soon, I will start a stopwatch and see how many minutes before I am allowed to press a button that is not X. If the naysayers are right I won't be posting in this thread again for 20 hours, at least.

Being realistic I suspect there is a lot of exaggeration going on to be honest, I am sure it may be linear, but I doubt you just watch the screen and tap X when prompted. Although such games do exist (they are called Guitar Hero and Dance dance :) )

You can do that, for longer if you want, for the entire game.

Yes, the default menu action is "Auto Battle"

Doesn't mean you have to choose it though, you can do whatever you want right from the start.

You can change the default battle command in options to abilities!

Don't reckon much to Games first to play policy, my CE was sent out last thursday and as of yet still hasn't shown up. Hopefully it will come tomorrow for the official release date.

I get what you mean for the most part, but many FFs have blended the two well - VII and VIII obviously, but VI had mechs and techno-cities, and X made it an interesting story structure. I've always loved how they've blended magic & engineering, and as long as the fantasy setting isn't drained too much in XIII, I'll be happy with the style.

Ah yes, I agree. My post was silly, I didn't really think it through correctly. :(

wuuuuuuuu

got it this morning at 9am, played it for a straight 6 hours and then took a break, about to start playing again now, i must say at first i didn't like the battle system but now i see how clever it is, switching paradigm's to get healed and then switching back to build up your chain. Loving it so far, it looks and feels so good it's unreal. Hope everyone else is enjoying it. Not sure what people meant about the 20 hour tunnel thing...

Yep its fast and tactical, the way the Sqaure-Enix intended it to be.

And the 20 hours or so, depending on how good you are, is the treking through linear levels throughout much of Cocoon. I personally don't see the problem here as this is part of the game and story.

Grrrr, mine was shipped on Friday, first class (99p), and not here, do you reckon they have that 'Do not post until 9th' thing on it like some other recent big releases?

yeh me neither, i'm enjoying going through the 'linear' paths and leveling up my attributes, i expected parts of it to be similar to this, like parts of ff games have been like in the past

Well I can confirm just pushing X / A is optional. You don't start with many attacks / actions mind you so it doesn't make much difference what you do.

Got it this morning and have played for 8 hours so far.

I love it. Anyone who thinks that during the battles you just have to press X all the time clearly hasn't used the Paradigm Shifts. The battles are fast paced which is what I want. I don't want to spend 10 mins on each enemy I encounter otherwise it would take 200+ hours to complete especially if you are killing enemies to level up and grab items.

I don't get why people are complaining about the fact that the game is very closed in its maps when it was near enough the same with FFX and everyone seemed to love that.

The graphics are amazing. They didn't even need to do any FMVs they could have used the in game engine they are that good IMO.

Your right most of us who thought that havent played the game due to it not arriving :P

Im looking forward however to trying this Paradigm shifts they look interesting can see myself messing up abit by accidently choosing the wrong one, Is their a set amount of times in battle you can swap ?

Possibly something to do with the fact that the majority of ffx was outdoors where you could see very far. Im so excited to get playing this tomorrow!
