Views on chevrolet avalanche 8.1L

Hi there, My dad used to live in the states and had a big truck. He is now thinking of another and we have seen this. We know it's going to require huge ammounts of petrol etc. At the moment he has a Audi a8 2.8 so he knows the running costs etc. It will be used for carrying bits about etc. This is the one we have seen and spoken to the guy and he is willing to do a deal at £11500.

He is 47 so Insurance should not be to bad. Are there special insurance companys? I know people will think he is mad but it's his money. Comments are welcome!

God, I was nearly sick when I looked at the outside. Then I saw the interior, and I was.

You would have to be some kind of head-mental to buy that. There is no purpose that you can think of that that car would best suited to over anything else.

haha what a joke. 14-18mpg. so, 3 times more fuel than my little polo, and thats assuming it actually hits those targets. What will he actually be 'carrying' in it?

My 4.0 Jeep is averaging 15mpg round town driving so can't see that doing double figures. The interior looks rank and thats coming from someone with an american 4X4 designed in the 70s!

A Vortec 8.1 L V8 with 340 hp (253 kW), for the three-quarter-ton 2500 series. The drive train is rear-wheel drive or available with selectable high/low four-wheel drive.

8.1ltrs and it has 340 bhp.

Also it has a 25.8 gallon fuel tank, over £125 to fill up.

Perhaps they might be acceptable in the US, but they look ridiculous on this side of the Atlantic.
Not to mention the hideous plastics and 'leather'. And those wheels!

I'd put up with a Dodge Ram SRT-10, but an Avalanche is just silly.
