New Car Time... BUT WHAT!?

This is something i'd never do. I've told my gf that i'll always have my cars - she understands.

Totally. You've got to have hobbies or whats the point?

I knew mine was for keeps when I said 'Will you let me have one of those one day?' and she said 'Why would you need to ask me before chosing a car?'.

Oh don't worry. All my mates get on at me because apparently I think EVERYTHING is boring.

I'm pretty sure it wouldnt be boring behind the wheel, but I just can't get excited about anything with more grip than power.

If we are just throwing in random fun cars, how about a Monaro VXR? Should be entertaining round a track and even a late low mileage one should give you change from 18k. Heck I'd take it over a renault :)

Agreed, I'm a firm believer that I should be with someone who helps me realise my dreams, not who takes them from me.

Not saying there aren't other things to worry about or spend money on, or that other things dont sometimes take priority, but i'll always have my cars.

Of course it works both ways - I'm going to have to put up with about 20 dogs :p

I was just playing - i know what you are getting at :p

If this is genuinely your last 'interesting' car for a fair old while & your not considering a 'proper' (;)) sportscars then blow as much of the cash as you can & get yourself the M3 as it is probably unlikely you will be owning anything as properly quick for some time.

Yea, it means I can't object to some ridiculously sized marine aquarium :D

Just make sure it isn't stored above the garage in case it springs a leak, or creased leather and a chafed steering wheel will be the least of your worries! :p:D

Creased leather, I wish, she scraped the passenger seat when getting in last month, now got a mark on it, given up now :p

What about compromise?

I could have bought/can buy any car I want, as long as it has five doors, she can drive it occasionally (Well, she puts my premium down on 99% of cars anyway) and I don't spend too much money on modifying it (My recent application for a CAIS was denied until after the baby arrives ).

That said, she fully supports my aspirations of owning a 7-esque vehicle in a few years time (as a toy/weekend/track car, obviously).

OP I think you need to be more specific with your requirements.

i.e, hot hatch? GT? Cabrio/fixed roof? running costs, etc.

You cannot compare a Megane 225 or Focus ST to an Audi S4 or a BMW M3.

As standard that would have the following figures:

Power output: 405BHP at 6000RPM
Rev limit: 6500RPM
Torque: 400ft.lb at 4800RPM
Top speed: 186MPH
0-60MPH: 3.9 seconds
0-100MPH: 9.2 seconds
0-100-0: 13.56 seconds
Skid pad G: 1.03G
Standing ¼ mile: 12.4 seconds
MPG: 20/30MPG (city/highway, UK MPG – EPA official measurements)
Length: 4564mm
Width: 1869mm
Nürburgring Nordschleife lap time: 7 minutes 56 seconds

The car has both an adjustable steering wheel and electric sports seats so makes for an extremely comfortable, pleasant place to be. The Z06 is also fitted with the heads-up-display which displays revs, speed, indicators and a choice of either oil, temperature or fuel information. This is then projected onto the windscreen, preventing you from having to glance down at the instruments whilst driving. It also has a fairly expansive storage area, accessible through the rear hatch, ideal for carrying luggage.

The car is also replete with a high level of equipment – including leather seats, cruise control, air conditioning, traction control, ABS, active handling, electronically adjustable suspension, a limited slip differential, electric mirrors, a CD player, intermittent wipers, various additional instrumentation, trip computers, remote central locking, alarm, an immobiliser and more.

As is typical of the top end models, the Z06 also features exclusive suspension with unique shock calibration, larger anti roll bar at the front, stiffer rear leaf spring and improved camber settings which work to improve control during high speed cornering. These improvements, combined with the already capable handling of the standard model, allow the Z06 to complete the Nürburgring in less than 8 minutes – beating the BMW M3 CSL, the Ferrari F430, Honda NSX-R, Porsche 911 Turbo and more. Without doubt it is an extremely competent, capable car.

For comparision (this is the earlier 385BHP Z06):

The five door thing would immediately rule out 2 of our 3 cars. I would never stand for such restrictions but luckily I have quite a reasonable missus when it comes to car taste. :)
