Need a new PSU as my other one is dying; and I was just wondering what the ocuk psu are like?

It'll be powering my main rig (see my sig for details)

I'm not massively overclocking anything at the moment so I don't know if that is a factor; opinons welcome.

I think they are really new and it would be like popping a cherry so to speak, i'd go with a better known brand as i don't think there is anyway to be sure if they are good quality.

I'd look at your setup to see the watts you'll need and the graphics amps required. Then you'll have a better idea of what you need. I think in general corsair and bequiet are the most popular PSUs on this forum. Fan of corsair personally.

i have an antec 550w basiq psu and it certaintly isnt basic. read up on the reviews, and you will see its a serious contender for any mid-range psu.

Is that really the best simile you could come up with ;)

Essentially, it would be bad. Cheap, generic PSUs are never a good idea.

Im always dubious when a company doesnt list a warranty period, im guessing it will be 2 years but you just dont know, cheaper brand = higher failure rate IMO

This came up in another thread a little while back, the conclusion was that while generic psus are normally fatal, these actually look very good.

Thread [post=16020690]here[/post].

None of us could find any reviews though, so my assessment of "very good" is based on manufacturer specifications but nothing more.

They are Powercool. Very good brand. Modular, 80+ efficiency, dual rail with 22A on each. I'm getting one for my next build, great for the price.

the OCuk 650 w modular. are "power cool" the braided cables see very nice, picking it up it feels quite weighted. (good quality? :):) ) switching it on, the fan is REALLY quiet, seems to kick quite a bit of air out the back even when doing nothing!

the ONLY doubt i can find with it, is the 4pin cpu power connector (its an 8pin split into 2) will not reach up to my cpu on my board... well.. it fits.. its kinda a stretch to get it there. but it fits. only downside is i cannot fit my video card as there is nowhere for the lead to go (too short)

ill be geting a extension for it tho so all should be good :)

Whilst unbranded PSUs are generally bad news, in this case I'm sure that OcUK know enough about PSUs and business so as not to put their name to something awful!

Agree but I also would like to hear a non bias review if anybody has already got one.
