My iPhone has developed a 5mm crack from the middle of the dock connector heading upwards towards the back on my 3G. Finished my contract now, on the simplicity deal now.

Ive read that a number of people seem to have this problem, as its out of warently would I still be able to claim off the insurance? Which is with O2. Or would it be better to book an appointment at the genius bar? I spoke to O" and they said I would be without my iPhone for 2weeks :(

Or am I just worrying about nothing :o Iam just thinking of the resale value really.

Don't even think about claiming from insurance or having O2 deal with it. It's a known fault, make an appointment at the Genius bar and the chances are that they'll swap it on the spot.

Yes I do - I've not heard of anyone who's been rejected for that problem.

Ok thanks, any idea why they replace it tho? If you had the same problem with say a Nokia or Samsung I doubt they would replace it free of charge.

Seems a good gesture on behalf of Apple.

Apple will replace the iPhone where there is a crack near the dock connector as in the store managers own words "an emerging issue". Have had two replaced at the Arndale store no problems, my 3G was out of warranty.

Mine is the 3G 16GB model. Would love a 3GS replacement with the old bootroom. But on the other hand a refurb 3G would suit me better as I like to jb mine.

I dare say Apple know this would be considered an inherent fault, so are replacing handsets with no quibble, but at the same time not drawing attention to the issue.

Just been in for the same reason, they didn't have any problems replacing it.

However, I haven't done a backup for a while so I'm going back in tomorrow.

I've just thought though, maybe it's worth waiting until the 4G comes out and then sell on the shiny new 3G. Maybe the value will drop a bit when the 4G is released.

Really? It's happened to mine too. Really annoying.

I think you'll find that I'm by no means an Apple worshiper. I hardly post here because I have nothing useful to contribute in this part of town. It only looks like you're here to be sarcy.

Funny how it's your post that seems most defensive here.
