Was sent this in an email earlier - would be funny if it wasn't so true:

The Government has refused proper health care to many elderly citizens due to their advancing years. It is a worrying problem for many but help is at hand. Join the new free care plan today. If you are 60 years or older, you can apply. All new members will receive a gun and four bullets. You are allowed to shoot one MP (two if you live in England), one MSP (if you live in Scotland), one councillor and just to be sure of a long sentence, someone you really don't like and think the world could do without.

As part of the plan, you will leave enough evidence to make sure you are caught and in due course will be sent to prison. There you will get a safe central heated environment, three meals a day, lots of company, free TV and an assortment of games plus - most importantly - all the health care you need!

New teeth needed? No problem.
New glasses? They'll be provided free of charge.
New hip, knees, kidney, lung, heart? They're all covered too.

But, I can hear you ask, who will pay for all of this? Well, the same government that told you they cannot afford your current health care.
And as an added bonus, because you are a prisoner, you don't have to pay income tax anymore. There is even the chance you may be able to claim for infringements of your Human Rights, leaving money for your loved ones!

Great Britain! A GREAT country or what.

If you don't like it (even ignoring the fact that it's an edited version of the American spam that went round recently), then just leave the country or vote differently.

Don't post on a computer forum. Do something :)

That's it! I'm immigrating!

I think you mean emmigrating. :p

It's the same anywhere you go. Not much you can do about it without becoming a politician! And even then you don't really have much power to change anything.

As far as I know they don't have Habeas corpus, you can be detained forever without charge. No right to jury trial. Confessions are taken as instant proof of guilt. Conviction rate of court cases is over 99%.

Once you're in there, they make use of solitary confinement a lot. There are beatings too. If you're on death row you aren't told anything untill suddenly the day comes when they drag you off and kill you.

weird, doesn't Japan have a really low percentage of prisoners compared to population though?

Lol - that would be funny if OAP's were handed guns and they went around killing Politicians, they probably need to get some gun shooting practice first though.

Refusing transplants on elderly patients is fairly common though.
We're not exactly swimming in spare organs and the people who decide who gets them are going to pick the people who are low risk or who are going to be able to use the organ longer.
Refusing major surgery is also quite common, it puts an incredible amount of stress on any body. Do you really think it's worth trying to repair geralds aeortic dissection when he won't even survive anasthesia.

So of course you're going to get less healthcare when you get old, healthcare isn't free and if you're high risk they won't touch you.

Sadly thats the facts of life, you get old and you die. It's ugly and undignified, but hey, thats the way you came into this world and it's the way you fly out.
