Honeymoon where? Mauritius, Maldives or Seychelles

Nice one. It was one of the places I had looked at that the local guys in belfast recommend. I have plenty to go through now! At least I have over a year!
 
Yeah I'd agree that weather is going to be a big deciding factor. Right now it's scorching out there, but in May you're looking at back end of summer, so temperatures in the twenties but not exactly tropical.
 
Hopefully April will be a bit warmer than May. Also seems a lot of wedding venues are cheaper in April too. So much info to digest from this thread! Will keep it updated as we go along.
 
We're getting married in June. The Maldives would have been our first choice, but June isn't supposed to be the best time of year to go. We have decided on Koh Samui instead - you can stay somewhere pretty special for a fair bit less than the Maldives and the weather should be fine too. Can't wait to go.
 
lol. Do some research with regards the weather PRIOR to booking! We went in August and we had one day of spotty rain but it didn't detract. Don't forget, our summer is their winter! Same with the Maldives, don't go in our summer if you can help it. Best time to go anywhere like that is around about December to now. We've just got back from a 4 star plus in Sri Lanka that was a bit different. Beautiful weather and loads of wildlife.

Thailand is another one that is best in our winter. But don't let the weather dictate unless you want uninterupted sunshine. Koh Samui does look fabulous. We were going to go ourselves a couple of years ago but I had appendicitis instead.

We went to the maldives for our honeymoon...it was fine, the wife loved it as she likes to lay in the sun on a beach all day, for me there are so many other places i would have preferred to go (Such as rome, drive around some of the USA or a return trip to vegas)

Diving was good, but the highlight for me was the air taxi...i felt sorry for the people who got the boat onto the island.

I should also say that we went not long after the tsunami had destroyed much of the coral etc so i am sure it would be much better now it has started to establish itself again.

I am glad i saw the maldives though as we were led to believe that many of the islands/atoll's wont be there in the near future.

Yes indeed, most of the southern hemisphere of course better in our winter ... however I've been advised that Koh Samui is one of the few places in this part of the world that should be pretty good in June (most of the other exotic destinations are not an option as even if they are hot, they get too much rain, including the maldives)

Hopefully this is right and we get some good weather :)
 
we went on holiday to the Maldives last year, was just the most fantastic place on earth. Also got a free upgrade to a Water Bungalow :D
 
I just got this info from one travel agent...

"I do not recommend Maldives at all for April/may due to the significant rainfall." Surely this isn't correct. Maldives shows around 50mm in April and Mauritius over 120mm!

I think they specialise in Mauritius so they are really trying to fob us off.
 
Southwest monsoon (rainy season) is from around Mayish to October with the rain coming in around June/July.

But like I said, it's nothing like the rain here. It will monsoon for a couple of minutes then the sun will be back within minutes and it always stays warm.
 
Been checking out some more options and rang a few places but they all say prices won't be available for another 8 weeks or so. Probably can only book a year in advance.

Don't think I will make any real progress until I decide on a time/budget. Some gorgeous places I've come across but I can only dream.
 
I'm going on my honeymoon to the maldives on 6th April. Unless you've already booked by then I'll give you a review of how it goes when I get back. We're staying in a Water Villa (on stilts) at what is probably a mid-range resort for 10 nights and it's costing just less than £5k.
Flying direct with BA. We were considering emirates via Dubai, but we've not had a decent holiday for 2 years and I just want to get out there, lie on a beach and maybe at most do a bit of snorkelling.
Huge amount of money to be spending, but hey ho it's a once in a lifetime trip!
 
Maldives without a doubt.

Would have considered Mauritious but my other half spent 9 months out there on her year abroad. As amazing as it was for her being a French speaker, she said that it certainly isn't honeymoon material. Honeymoon is soo special that just go for the best, Maldives!
