Hello guys and gals,

It struck me a few days ago that I have never donated my blood. There is no real reason for this - I simply haven't looked into doing it or set aside the time.

It's clear that giving blood is only a good thing and can potentially save lives. Accordingly, I popped onto the National Blood Service's website and looked for some information. I was able to request an appointment less than a mile away in under 3 minutes. How easy was that!

Since it's such an easy thing to do that can have such a positive impact, I'd thought I'd create this thread to encourage people to donate some blood themselves. There must be many of you, like me, who have no real objections to doing so yet just haven't made the effort. Well, today is that day to be productive and sign up!

Let's see how many people from OCUK we can get to pledge their blood by requesting an appointment.

Go team OCUK :p:o:D

I'm definitely doing this soon. Unfortunately I've been in a malarial zone within the last 6 months so need to wait a bit longer before they'll let me.:)

Get your gammy Plasmodium blood away from me :p

I can't give blood :(
Nobody would want your blood.

I had some blood taken the other day. Except it was to see if I have AIDs.

Come on guys, who will be the first one to request an appointment :D

I give blood regularly, and have done for the past 8-9 years.

If you can physically give it then i think you should, you dont miss it as such and it doesnt hurt contrary to popular belief...the anemia test (pin ***** in your finger) is much worse.

I have an extreme phobia of anything which pierces the skin, so wont catch me doing this unless they knock me out. Shame really as I have very rare blood (only my father and I have this blood type locally)

Fantastic idea for a thread. I'm a bit of a blood donation evangelist and I'm always trying to get people to do this. When a member of the family has benefitted from this service it really brings it home.

Apparently only 5% of the population who are eligible to donate actually do so, which is really pathetic, so go on, it makes you feel good and it is something that you know really helps your fellow man.

I gave blood for the first time week before last. Will be doing so regularly from now on.
Edit: Just realised I wasn't signed up as an Organ Donor. Sorted quickly here.

I want to give blood, but don't think I can? I had a blood bags pumping into my body a few years ago (Can't remember how many ago exactly) so not sure whether or not I'm actually allowed?

Come on guys, we haven't had one person commit to give blood yet who hasn't given blood previously :(

Well done to those who give regularly!

I'd try using the link in the OP to investigate. I'm sure there is a point of enquiry :)
