^ Zaf, I've done a lot of research on wedding photography - it seems par for the course but many of them were horrendously expensive (was working for the National Wedding Show). if you are good and can get yourself a good reputation you can earn an awful lot of money.

Nah, about the going rate, sadly. Bear in mind they wont be getting any prints (outside of the ones for the album) and they lose reporduction limitations and i can sort of see why they are that much.

In that case then Phate stick at it mate, 5DmkII here you come :D

Yup tis good business and their prices are about average and comparable to what we paid last year! That said I'd say it's a good few days work and not just the day itself as you've got to process and organise all your shots! Have a viewing sort an album out etc etc!

You also have to be ruthlessly organised on the day and cope with brides freaking out and all sorts! Have heard some classic stories!

Not really - the £250 is a marketing/revenue tool that works on multiple levels.

1. If someone pays for it then great - material costs for this are fractional.
2. It can be `thrown in` to a package to tempt someone to book, as far as they are concerned they are getting £250 worth of product for free at low overall cost to me.
3. If they don't want it immediately, then I can contact the clients a year after (around about their first wedding anniversary) and offer it to them for a greatly discounted rate of £100 - thus potentially continuing the revenue stream from that wedding a year after it takes place - again the material cost is very low. Granted I would be letting a large part of my intellectual property go, but its highly doubtful I would be using that material for any other commercial aspect or making any money from it.

Oh, and looking forward to working with Jake, should be a blast.

Mark

PS - found this forum post as the traffic on my stats page has shown quite a few click throughs over the past couple of days.

PPS - not sure why my advert seemed to be odd to some people. I shoot from the hip and was just trying to be as specific as possible - seriously you wont believe the timewasters who mailed me asking for the job, people from Romania, Australia, Pakistan & India to mention a few - I thought it just got the point across - clearly it didn't!!

I'm pretty chuffed, it's paid assisting work too (not that I'm bothered I would've done it for free!) Guy seems wicked, and I'm chuffed I'm going to be doing this, as weddings is something I've been really wanting to push this year. He is also part of the BIPP (I think that's what he called it) and would like to get me involved and get me enrolled in it too (as you have to be mentored by an existing member)

So fingers crossed! heres to lots of wedding work!

:D

For free???!! First thing on the agenda is to renegotiate your rate.. ;)

When you say wicked, do you mean in an Ian Huntley/Fred West/Myra Hindley kind of way??

Ahh so you decided to sign up Mark? Good stuff :D

I have to be careful what I post about my Wedding experiences now.....crap :o

EDIT: Oh and cheers guys :) Can't wait!
