Since when has VW been unreliable? I haven't owned any recent model I must admit but the ones I've run have soldiered on through hell and back (the only exception being the Bora that had some issues).
 
I own a VW Golf GT TDi, I bought it because I have always wanted one, and because I thought because it was German, it was bullet proof, believe me its not.

Its had its fair share of problems, mainly in the electrical department!

My next car in 5-6 months will be a Beema :)
