*** Final Fantasy XIII ***

okay, since so many people are playing this now, I think we need to re-enforce the

NO SPOILERS

request that was made in the opening post.

I've been playing now since around 4pm, and I'm enjoying this game muchly. The bad press, and the comments about being in a "tunnel" did make me some what worried. but you'll find when you play the game, the "tunnel" is part and parcel of the world, it is how the world functions. And so is 100% acceptable, also "tunnel" is not representative of what is actually going on. You'll understand when you dive in and play for yourself.

I'm enjoying this Final Fantasy just as much as I have enjoyed previous ones. The reviews I've seen giving this a 5/10 or around that, I can only fathom the reasoning being they were expecting something better than previous final fantasy games.

Then again I have not yet finished the game, But so far, As a BIG fan of the final fantasy series, i can say this is a good addition to the collection.

Starting to get a bit lost with the whole crystalarium thing... Either that, or I'm expecting stuff to happen that doesn't happen.....?

For example, I've used CP to fill up everything on Lightnings Commando abilities, but I'm still a level 1, just got everything maxed and not gone any further with it....

The levels advance with the story:) it's to stop over-grinding early on. You can grind to complete a level, but cant advance to the next level till its unlocked as you progress

I've got it. The intro movie blew me away. The menus are nice and clean which I like. Battles much faster than I expected.. going to play some more!

hmmmm, fair enough. I guess that cuts down oh grinding and automatically balances the game.

how about tears and fangs and all the other 'components', just flogging em, or are they of any use??

I'm not sure as of yet, But I would guess they are used for upgrades later in the game. I've not sold anything yet put it that way :p

Main thing I've been playing with so far is the Paradigm menu. I've customized 2 more, I wonder if it would be worth posting custom ones up on here as we find them? Not really story spoilers that is it.

Would you recommend this to someone who has played very little of the FF series? I remember playing it for a short while back on the PS1.

I don't really know the background story, but kinda like the sound of this?

So would you recommend to a FF n00bie?

Its not the best FF but arguably great for a newcomer.

Much easier to get into, if you can stomach the first few hours

Simple answer is Yes if you want to try a JRPG or something different fro myour usual games.

Each Final Fantasy game follows a similiar forumula and contains trademark elements of the franchise (Crystals, Chocobos, Airships, Magic/Sci-Fi engineering etc), but they are their own seperate stories with different characters and fantasy worlds.

Really? That seriously sucks. Why restrict that? If peeps (usually on their 5th replay of the game ;p) feel the need to grind early on to lvl, why shouldn't they? Sure, keep weapons / equip (not sure how FF13 works, assume magic is unlocked via the grid?) for later on, but that's just a bit silly IMO.

They might as well play the game for you if they are taking so much free reign away, but I guess it's what the majority like these days :(

This reminds me of Mass Effect 2 in that its been dumb downed to appeal to a broader audience, this isnt a problem to me IMO. Only played for an hour or so and im like not having to do loads of back tracking, endless convos with NPCs and the battle system looks like its going to be pretty good once i get into it more. One question does the score you get in battles (points and stars) have any affect in the game at all?
