I'm getting tired of seeing video games blamed for firearms incidents, this was entirely down to the lack of education of the step-dad.
Also; no amount of gratuitous video game violence turns you into a killer.
Your introduction to shooting should be via a club, where you are surrounded by well trained people and are taught what to do and what NEVER to do with the weapon.
As an example Penn & Taller take a kid who plays a lot of violent video games, then get him to fire a rifle which is too big for your 1st go if you're 9. Physically a safe activity, but I think they just scared the poor kid off shooting for life.
In the air-cadets you start out at 13 years old on a .22 converted Lee Enfield #8 rifle, there's no kick at all, it's great to learn marksmanship technique, and it's a nice accurate rifle. Once you're 14 you can have a go at the SA-80 derived L98-A1 (A2 by now); its loud, hot, brutal and a lot of fun to fire. Unless you're a particularly small 14 year old, then you'll just end up fighting with it, it'll win, and you'll never want to see one again as long as you live. I know this because it was 2 years before I had the guts to try it a second time, and it was a lot of fun that time round.
My point is, to kill someone or a class of your fellow students with a gun takes an unbelievably deranged mind and a good level of experience with firearms. No computer game comes close to either of these.
