walking to work - do you judge people?

I cycle, and i smile at everybody walking in the opposite direction. I immediately judge the people who don't smile back, which unfortunately is most of them.

If i'm being overtaken then that's usually a sign that i'm walking too slowly, so i speed up.

When i used to work, i learnt all the tricks about the route. For example, it is best to go off 1 stop before the station as it works out quicker to walk the remaining way due to the traffic. It was insane how manic it was at 7am...it's only Putney! :o

I walk quickly, but its still a 30 minute walk to school.

Not bothered about being overtaken, but if people are in my way I tend to get annoyed quite quickly... damn chavs in rows of 5 or 6 blocking the entire footpath with their Lynx and cigarette fumes trailing behind them

Oh, and yes, I judge people. I find other humans fascinating and I always wonder what they are up to/where they are going...

I just walk fast and usually catch most people up but...

ah something I forgot...I turn it into a form of motor racing chess by judging where the oncoming people will want to walk and trying to position myself so the person coming to overtake me actually has to slow down or walk into someone else
...I do this quite a lot. My favourite game :D

Cutting people off and running them into things is great fun :D

I only start work at 10 so only leave the house at about 9:30-10:00 for a 20 minute cycle to the office , so I don't have to commute in the rush hour, which is nice :)

When I'm walking I'm usually listning to music and I tend to forget (zone out) where i am . So at random intervals you will see me do a little shuffle or sing a few lines of a song before going red after I've realized were I am.

haha the London Bridge race, yup walked to work accross it every day always over took people i felt like a weakling if i was over taken.. ALPHA MALE WINS

I have not walked anywhere since I passed my driving test. :D But I overtake people all the time in my car.

I don't mind if people overtake me as long as they don't go slower than me afterwards, it annoys me when people overtake when I am going as fast as is safe, I make a point at keeping up my speed so they either continue faster than me or I overtake them back but I don't start a race.

Nah I try and pretend no one else exists on the walk to work. Try and maintain at least a couple square metres of personal space and avoid eye contact at all costs. Got quite a steep hill to go up and find the power walkers somewhat amusing as they're often slightly overweight and probably factor the hill walk into their 'get fit' plan. Only reason I don't like getting overtaken is because it risks infringement of my personal space so usually try and match speeds.

I've been doing that walk most days for nearly 7 years now so think it has made me a bit crazy.

When I walk to work it's 5 mins after I woke up, so I don't care about anything yet.

Walking home, I try to chill and get work out of my head by the time I get home.

I pretty much race when I walk though London. When ever I get suck on Oxford Street sometimes when I walk from Paddington to Old street, I always end up racing the buses hah. Good way to keep fit I think, better than the people who go well slow.

How many of the posters in this thread have Asperger syndrome?

I see, fast walkers have difficulties with:

social communication
social interaction
social imagination

What was that you just said. :p

I don't judge anyone, I just barge slow people out of the way, I have places to be and things to do I can't be walking slow behind you, move.

At work it's the worst, I have to narrowly miss everyone in the shop because they're idiots and crawl everywhere, just get your shopping and go, browsing is for boring people, decide what you want and go and buy it then get on with your life for gods sake!
People give you dirty looks when you miss them or their trolley by centimeters but I'm a master at timing things right so I don't make contact, they can't complain that way.
