New Street Light issues?

Black out curtains behind your current ones, on the same rail, alternate the hooks. My bedroom always used to be like that, without any real reason, was dark even in the middle of the day, awesome.

Ive had this for years.... you will soon get used to it. If you care that much just get some better blinds or similar. Seems a little unnecessary to make them move it.

Seems a little unnecessary to get used to it/spend money on blinds/curtains to suit their stupidly placed light.

To be fair though, he would have had a lot of time to voice his opinions before they would have installed them. I got the 'location' of the lamp changed purely because they wanted to move it from 'inbetween' me and my neighbours to lumped the edge of my drive, which is an incredibly small drive as it is, mind you it was only shifted a couple of inches or so but it was good enough.

The only option now is to have a 'shield' fitted to prevent the light falling backwards, although I would a lot of these 'new' lights are poorly aligned and the direction of the light can be changed.

Derby have had/currently installing new street lights all across the city.

They can install a shield the goes round the back of the light unit to block some of the light from going into your room at night. See if this can be done??

Don't you find it funny though how there's all talk of dimming them now because they're not 'environmentally' friendly, ie. cost to much money! In my opinion they seem to shut off well before they should in the mornings, money well spent clearly.

This same thing happened to myself, its the most ANNOYING thing ever when you goto sleep and theres a light right outside your window. I just took the air rifle out and shot the thing. It did get put back in but i just took a stone to it this time and problem solved.

As mentioned, you can complain and they can fit a baffle/shield to the light to stop it entering your bedroom. I know a few astronomers that have had this done to limit light entering their gardens.

Yea thats the thing ive had black outs before but i find i sleep in too much and dont really wake up, i just leave my curtains open and have blinds shut so when the morning does arrive (the days when im still home when its light) i enjoy the sun lighting up the room! im thinking a shield would be nice just to reduce the glow....The house brick idea i thought of but my house mate might be ****ed when the shards of glass and brick land on his car ha!

See thats the thing we had no notification of the build. Went to work one day came home the next to new lights and a few days later we had illumination!

A letter arrived i think the day before stating how the council had recieved extra money and managed to get lights installed as our street was at the bottom of a long list..i was happy staying at the bottom!

That is really unlucky then, and might add extra strength to the complaint. I remember we got the letter a good couple of months before work even started.

After reading this thread I decided to contact my local council regarding the lighting in our street. We're in a basement flat and one of the lights is angled up by about 15 degrees and shines right into our bedroom. Now its not a massive problem but I thought if something simple could be done there was no harm in asking.

The council got back to me within a day  and after I sent some pictures he suggested putting a shield on the front or cutting off the top of the lamp post and replacing it with a 0 degree rise one.

I thought that was pretty good, I was expecting a long drawn out process where they basically told me to get stuffed at the end of it.
