"I'm Staying with My Boys..." The Heroic Life of Sgt. John Basilone, USMC:

This is a newer book on Basilone, I don't know if the series is using this is a reference or not though. It is the "Basilone family approved biography" according to the website. Inside the book it mentions that the author is "working on the film adaptation of the story."

Brotherhood of Heroes: The Marines at Peleliu, 1944--The Bloodiest Battle of the Pacific War:
This book appears to be mostly about K/3/5, which is Sledge's company of Marines.

Have just finished Helmet for my pillow. It's a very different type of book to Sledge's. Concentrates for a lot of the time on his life in Australia and the antics he got up to while on Gaudalcanal and Cape Gloucester. Still good and very descriptive and tells a story.

Sledge's book very much focusses more on his emotions, the fear, the conditions under which he lived.

Both very good books giving two very different perspectives. Probably enjoyed Sledge a bit more, good reads.

I am now reading a book called "If you survive" George Wilson memoirs from Normandy to the Bulge.

Just upgraded to HD.
Just ordered BoB on blu-ray to get me in the mood for this.
Can't remember the last time I was looking forward to a TV event as much as this! :D

Just watched that "Making of..." video, looks epic, I swear they've upped the ante and are working with even more extras!

It's fine, this is the sort of thing I will actually buy when the box set comes out, hopefully by then in good old blu ray

Likewise, I'll definitely be buying the boxset to go with my BoB boxset. No idea when the boxset will be out, but in the meantime I'll watch it on Sky HD in april, really looking forward to it. Will most likely be the highlight of my TV watching year :D

The below might be of interest to anyone keen to watch The Pacific, HBO take a look at the life of the main Veterans featured within this miniseries.

There's more on the HBO's YouTube account, I would post the others but I'm not sure if more than one per post is allowed
