Booking flights question

I'm on the verge of booking a flight for my holiday later this year. Found one that goes from Gatwick, which would be very convenient for me, only slight issue is that there's a 14 hour overnight gap between connecting flights in Doha (this is Qatar airways btw). What generally happens here? Will the airline put me up in a hotel for this or is this something I need to try and arrange myself (if allowed?).

Also, if you're booking flights direct with the airline rather than a travel agent you're supposed to use a credit card in case they go bust? Anything else I should do?

The airline won't give you a hotel.

Credit card is best.

Make sure you have travel insurance before the flight, incase something happens between now and the time of departure.

Might be worth looking at alternate means on insurance, normally cheaper that way, but naturally means having two seperate payments, one for flight one for insurance, which most people cant be bothered to do :p

Concerning the overnight gap, unless stated you'd have to find yourself a place I'd presume...otherwiswe just stay in the airport really...

Emirates do a complimentry hotel room for long stopovers, ask the airline or your agent if qatar do anything similar?

14hrs

stuff that, find another even if it costs a bit more

Cost ain't that much of an issue (though sadly my budget won't go to business class - the prices ). Main criteria is flying from Gatwick as I live nearby instead of bloody Heathrow. Although I'm not spending 14 hours in an airport so I shall have to do more research.
