I have the below system

Gigabyte GA_965P_S3 (Socket 775)

GeIL 2GB (2x2GB) PC2-6400C5 800MHz

Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 "LGA775 Allendale" 2.13GHz (1066FSB) Clocked to 3.0Ghz

Radeon 5850

What is a marked step up? (not the gfx card obviously as i have just got that) if the budget was around £400-450

Visit gigabyte website and look on the CPU support list, if you can get a Quad core for cheap that your motherboard supports then do that.

Plus a ssd.

for that budget, an i5 setup. Mine cost £421 with 8GB of RAM (RAM is expensive at the moment) although having a quick look, the CPU has gone up £21 and the RAM has gone up £12 (x2). I did OK really because I then sold my old E8500 + board + RAM for £255

Are they i3's any good though? im not that fussed about an SSD as they are herifically expensive and small, i do need a new HD as i only have 2x 160's now and they are nearing full. Also the cpu heat sink on that i3 bundle looks immense.

Samsung F3 500GB is very good value then, or 1TB if you want it to not run out of space in ages.
