Never watched either of the three films and just got them. Am i in for a treat or are they too past their time ?

First and second are highly rated on IMDB.
Part one ranked #2
Part two ranked #3

Bear in mind they are seriously long films, each about 3 hours long.
I've only seen first and second myself and enjoyed them both. I feel like watching them again actually :).

The third isn't in the same league, but that's hardly surprising as the first two are breath-takingly good. I still have my heart in my mouth in the Italian restaurant scene after watching it dozens of times. You're in for a treat with those two.

I recorded the first two on my PVR a few weeks ago, though I still haven't got round to watching them yet :/

Bet I'll wake up with a horse's head in my bed after saying that!

Don't watch the 3rd.

Just dont. It doesnt follow the book at all, and non of it is even in the book! So it is all pointless.

1 and 2 are amazing though, but read the book first!

I have had them on blu-ray since the day the were relesed and I have only ever watched the first one. I tried to watch the second the other week but it just froze on me 20 mins in

Never seen these and never had any interest in watching them, but this thread has finally piqued my curiosity. I'll see if I can hunt down the Blu Ray discs.

If I'm going to watch a 1970s movie and suffer 1970s production values, I would at least prefer to suffer in 1080p.

Just to mirror what has already been said....the first godfather movie is amazing, brilliant storyline, fantastic acting and utterly believeable, Godfather Part 2 is even better, Al Pacino puts in the performance of his career, and in my opinion there isnt another movie in this genre that is quite as good.

Godfather part 3 - compared to the first 2 movies it is absolutely dire, as a stand alone movie it is fine but when pitted against the others it just doesnt cut it....as far as i am concerned it should never have been made.

I will throw in a vote of 'not that impressed'. I had not watched these films until fairly recently and when I did I was not that impressed. Considering the hype and all. Having said that I thought that the first one was a good film but that the series weakened after that.

All inall I have never really seen the appeal of the American mafia/gangster films which most people seem to rave about.

Each to their own I suppose.

That just sent a shiver down my spine thinking about that scene again!

Class films, after you've watched the films I would suggest reading the book, it is also excellent and goes into more detail on small points that are only alluded to in the films...then watch the films again!
