Hi guys.
I am looking to get some new tyres for the front of my Prelude.

I have had GSD3's on the front twice now, and whilst reasonably happy with the performance, i am not really happy with the wear rate.

What should I be looking at for sub 90 quid a corner (215/45/17) that will last a bit longer, don't mind sacrificing some performance for a harder compound that will better life. Keeping GSD3's on the rear, as they are (obviously) lasting a lot longer there!!

So, ocuk, what have you to reccomend?

(I quite like buying from Camskill, so stuff from there preffered, but does not have to be from there as long as the price is right!!)

Cheers peeps!

OOPS - Wrong forum!! Can a passing Don please move to motors :)

I'd try some Falken 452's. They seem to offer slightly less grip and slighty longer life (but not much) than F1's but they're £20 cheaper.

Go for Kumho KU31, they should last longer than F1's and are only £55 each.

This is what I'm using.

Saint_matt from the itr forum is using them too, he's the mechanic that everyone on there uses.

Ask with your local tyre fitter, many of them are stocking them now, saves the ball ache of delivery etc

Was only £153 for 4 fitted in 195/50/15's

Try the falken 912 newer pattern than then 452 and will last longer than them

Different market segment; the 452 are (budget)performance tyres, the 912s are general purpose summer tyres. Got them on my wifes car at the moment and whilst good tyres, they have worn very quickly compared to the previous Continentals (less than 8k on the fronts and will need to be replaced soon).

Nice, seems to have a pretty decent following, and at that price, certainly worth a pop!

how much do you want to spend. You can get a better tyre than the kumho if you want for more money, but without spending the earth.
Vredstein ultrac sessantas are £76 a corner in this size. They are very good and only £20 more than the kumhos.
heres a copy of the last evo tyre test. Well worth reading

Budget was sub 90 a corner. - (40 quid saving if I go for the Kumho is very appealing!)

Getting quote for them today :)

I have had Falken's (452) before on the Prelude, keen to try something else! Hard to beat the Kumho's at the moment.

Cheers guys.

ive been using the ku31s for a few years now. love em. i took my GF's fiesta to work today, had one of those new celica catch me up really fast on a section of DC and then drive an inch from my bumper as we were approaching a roundabout... so i thought wed see what he could do in the corners haha

after a sequence of roundabouts the fester (1.4) was a good 40-50 metres ahead. it has ludicrous grip

more likely you were going so slowly he had to back off to avoid going into the back of you?

given that the celica is one of the best fwd handling cars;

"forgotten just what a brilliant chassis this is, and in the GT it feels sharper than ever. There's a wonderfully alert, living feel to it, and as you slice into corners you can feel the suspension working, bobbling around, not in an unsettling way but in a busy, involving fashion." - Evo

but yea u can pretend that your tyres turn your car into a turbo no problem!

id just put money on the driver being a tool. he works at the same place as i do. every night you hear him leave at 5pm, caning his car from cold, red lining it down the long way.

its on the obligatory halfords "chariot" wheels so most likely came with serious duff tyres anyway

For me the Kumho KU31 is a poo tyre. Bear in mind I am using 195/55/15 fitment and the sidewalls are like jelly. Compared to the Bridgestones I had they are not very good. Dry grip is good and not bad in the wet but nothing to make you stand up and pay attention.

Again I would stress a model of tyre can feel different in a different profile so maybe the 215/45/17 is better due to the smaller side wall. As said many times before don't skimp on tyres. From the link you have provided I would go with the Bridgestone RE050A or if money is a big issue then the Hankook Evo V12s are a better choice than the KU31s.

i have them in 195/50/15 size. no issues at all. which bridgestones have you have success with? i may consider those in the future
