GDC Sony press conference.

I scooted over to Eurogamer. Thank the maker it is wireless too. Hopefully all rechargeable by the same USB cable that does the headset and DS3.

Is there a video of this presentation one can watch?
(Yes - http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/5344...ttp://blog.eu.playstation.com/&medium=5344514)

I'm quite excited that EA Sports Active is coming to PS3. Might help me lose some of the lard. :D

Can you actually use this Move device with any existing PS3 game? I see it has practically all the same buttons as a DS3 when combined with the sub controller. Don't flame me but I'm quite interested in seeing something like Bad Company 2 working with this, considering the spouting about Move being ultra accurate and whathaveyou. Sounds to me like it could easily rival a mouse for aiming. *ducks*

NB. I have never played an FPS on the Wii so I may have gotten completely the wrong end of the wand.

The socom 4 demo looks quite interesting

As did all the RES5 and LBP motion control stuff they showed at TGS last year, the new Tiger Woods game will also use MOVE but not Natal.
Im not sure what people was expecting TBH, Sony make a motion controller to get into the Wii market with the games most people who own the Wii play ie party games, sports games, most of the shovel ware type stuff us less casual gamers dont want to play.
So far the only price we have is for the controller, game, and PS eye to retail under $100, this could be $99 or $69 not known yet, there are other bundles including move + game, move by itself and the whole thing bundled with a PS3.

Gee where have i seen that before sony arnt even being suttle these days :p

Let hope they have FINALLY release a controller that good with fps.

Surely it will only be the same as Wii FPS games, which are nothing to shout about control wise?

What i should have said was shooters, which includes 3rd person and fps's and while i think all you have to do is play re4 wii to know how much an improvement the controls are over the original, when it comes to fps the sony controllers have never impressed me, the dead zones with the analogue stick annoys the hell out of me so this controller i think might be a better solution.

I don't think Sony have done enough with this. Of what I've seen of Natal (which admittedly is not a huge amount) the whole controller-less aspect of it is innovative. If it works as well as it's billed and you can just stand in front of your screen and the game/characters mimic your moves consistently then I can't see how Move would compete with this.

Maybe I've jumped the gun a bit early but Move looks like a next-generation Wii controller, whereas Natal looks like a next-generation game interface.

Not sure why you mentioned that.

Overall some of it looks really good, I liked how on Socom the guy was just sitting on a chair without flapping his arms about, they pitched that correctly imo. As for the Wii Sports Resort montage I think they have missed the point. Yes it looks better and the fidelity will be much better(which appeals to me) but half the appeal of the Wii is personality and character of the Miis. I know if it was side by side with a Wii, my niece, newphew, Mum and Dad etc would rather play on the Wii using the Miis and random waving of the remote to perform actions.

Also when it says it can handle upto 4 controllers at one time does that mean 4 sets? or does it mean 2 sets of wand and sub controller?

Agreed - unfortunately the tech Natal needs to realise even part of its potential might mean you will have to wait til the next console gen...

The Sony wand thing looks like it will work and is quite a conservative stab at input device - Natal v2 is a far more the product that will deliver the Natal promise...

ps3ud0

That combat game looks like it could be good.

However the game type it sits within is limited to say the least. One on one combat for this would get boring real quick.

Now if that combat model was used in an RPG/Action adventure sandbox game like Oblivion then that would get my interest and, I am sure, the interest of other 'hardcore' gamers.

move = pointless for people like us tbh, They are just trying to get some of those Nintendo sales, Same as MS

I couldnt disagree more.
Whilst yes it will offer the wii type of game and that alone will ensure sales particulary with the benifits of PS3 being in HD and this device more accurate.
Wii doesnt use head tracking or as they call it position the user within a 3D space with PS Eye

Furthermore as Ive pointed out in a different thread this device combined with the head tracking, facial recognition, voice recognition of the PS3 Eye and then finally combined with 3DTV opens a whole new doorway for developers and to future game possibilities.

It will of course take big franchise games to really get the masses interested and showcase the system off more.
Although rumours of a 3DTV Killzone 3 using this controller are floating around.
Maybe wishfull thinking but their is nothing stopping a major FPS game appearing and bringing this.

Id say Sony are onto some major advantages in the industry and its clear for me to see PS3 sales really start to take off.

It's not too bad looking but it seems like they've just copied the wii, improved it very marginally and tried to sell it as the next big thing. The only thing that interests me was the list of third party support they have which was pretty big and had a lot of japanese companies. Unfortunately for Sony Natal had the same thing a while back and the real problem is third parties have seemingly not been good at implementing motion controls into games as well as Nintendo. This will have Sony need to fill the gap with it's own first party studio's (which will make them not produce as many traditional games or take longer trying to get a control scheme that works on traditional pads and the Move) or they'll be potentially behind on quality games from Nintendo which considering they've had a year or two to get games whereas Sony is just starting you'd think the Wii would be the better choice. It's not all negative but they've got a big battle to make this worthwhile and the way I see it we either get too much focus on it and lose some effort on traditional games or it's not focused on and becomes not worth the effort.

Not sure why you mentioned that.

Because 3rd party support is very relevant? No need to get defensive ;)

More examples.

Agreed.... I don't think it will be the console-seller that Sony want it to be (think of your "casual gaming" friends who own a Wii - they would never get a PS3 in a million years).

However, the potential for it to drive motion control into enthusiast and hardcore games is pretty big, and with the right software they could totally pull this off.

Those saying that it will infringe on Wii patents have to remember that the majority of motion tracking is done in a completely different way. The PS3 motion controller tracks movement via thresholding using the image fed to it with the PSeye, the Wii uses accelerometers for all of its motion tracking. So basically all of the motion data is gathered from the Wii-remote whereas the PS3 itself does a lot of it using data fed to it from the PSeye.
