E60 hazards under braking

I had a moron in a 206 (mutually inclusive it seems) come flying up behind me far too quickly and then slam the brakes on at some traffic lights several months back. As I watched the rear view mirror in horror at his car coming at me, the hazards came on.

His girlfriend did not look impressed either.

Some people just do it manually also. First time I saw it was in Tenerife, any kind of braking beyond normal that you do on the motorways there is accompanied by putting on the hazards.

On the E60 it does additional brake lights under heavy braking (which are actually the rear fogs) instead on hazards.
They're not the fogs. I'm pretty sure the extra brake lights are a brighter version of the (pre-LCI) sidelights.

In a crash it'll [...] send the car/accident details (inc GPS) to the emergency services and BMW UK
As said, only if you subscribe to BMW assist, which is something like £300+ per year.

I wish mine did that. I left the window open overnight last week and ended up with a driver's seat full of snow :(

I bought a plug in module (plug it into the diagnostics port for 30 seconds and it reflashes something) for my Octavia which activates that feature. I think it should work with the Leon too. KVW100 I think it was called.

I just remember seeing an E36 M3 loose it on a wet corner once and as it flew off in to the field its Hazards came on. I thought "hmm, he's good"

Actually, that aside, on the TV this morning was a MK6 Golf doing wet distance stops with two types of tyre (contis and imports). The hazards lit up under heavy braking.

VW's are big on auto hazards under braking, in fact, its the only brand outside of Lexus' I've seen do it.

My M3 has an extra ring of LEDs which can light up under heavy braking. I did read somewhere that the feature is disabled on UK models though. Not sure if this is true - guess I'll have to test it at some point.

I noticed this when driving in France, any slight hold up on the motorways, and everyone will have there hazards on straight away. Certainly does help, and I guess it's just something they've learnt to do and is now a habit. Would take quite a while to get everyone in this country doing it.

You need a minimum of business nav and bluetooth for assist to be included.

I'm sure Fox could find the stats somewhere, but I'd bet that most E60's are specced with Pro nav, let alone Business nav!

Why Bluetooth? I know it's part of the 'Media Pack', but the assist phone/data call is done via the built in SIM not your Bluetooth phone.

I would imagine that more cars were fitted with the media package than not but there are a suprising number of cars even large engine ones with only business nav or no nav at all.

The bluetooth module(telematics control unit) is what holds the information for the inbuilt data connection(there is no sim in the car).
