Wonders of Our Solar System

I forgot to watch it & caught it the other day on the iplayer, I really liked it - probably one of the better things I've seen on the Beeb in a long time.

Quite like Brian Cox, watched a show he did on his work at the LHC a few weeks ago.

Not surprised hes done an episode on the sun lol, he was an advisor on the film Sunshine, amongst other physics knowledge.

Will be tuning in to the rest :)

Yeah I caught this show and thought it was really great. The presenter has been in a lot of shows, like the LHC one, and I also think hes a cool presenter. Should be a good series

I like Prof. Brian Cox, despite the naff band on his resume. I really liked his quote about the fear that the LHC was going to create black holes and swallow us all up, though I think he's said it was taken out of context (not sure how :D)

"Anyone who thinks the LHC will destroy the world is a ****" (starred out. First letter T, slang for female genitalia)

Thought the show was great and quite like Dr Cox as he has quite an infectious enthusiasm about the subject matter he covers. Also loved the parts about the Iguassu falls as we were there a couple years ago and it really is a fantastic sight.

He's a very enthusiastic bloke, but some bits made me cringe when he said "....and thats why I love physics"... after working out the power of the Sun. As a physicist myself, I do like him on the whole though and he actually makes physics interesting which rarely happens nowadays.

I quite liked that! The idea of working out the power output of the sun with a bucket of water and an umbrella? :)

Almost as cool as Eratosthenes working out the circumference of the earth (reasonably accurately) in 240BC with a pair of sticks and by paying someone to walk X hundred miles... Now, that's why I love physics :)

I'm 22 and he looks younger than me. It's always good when the presenter clearly understands and enjoys what they are presenting. I will definitely watch the rest of the series.

He seems to be a natural at presenting.

Unfortunately this seems to mean that he presents just about everything that might have a bit of physics in it. He is a good presenter, and the proggie concerned was better than I was expecting, but surely there must be other physicists who are good in front of a camera?

New episode tonight Gents! Sounds a good one!

Professor Brian Cox visits some of the most stunning locations on earth to describe how the laws of nature have carved natural wonders across the solar system.

Brian reveals how beauty and order in Earth's cosmic backyard was formed from nothing more than a chaotic cloud of gas. Chasing tornados in Oklahoma, he explains how the same physics that creates these spinning storms shaped the young solar system. Out of this celestial maelstrom emerged the jewel in the crown, Brian's second wonder - the magnficent rings of Saturn.

On an ice-choked lagoon in Iceland, he sees the nearest thing on Earth to Saturn's rings. Using the latest scientific imagery and breathtaking graphics, he explains how the intricate patterns round Saturn are shaped by the cluster of more than 60 moons surrounding the planet.

One of those moons makes a spectacular contribution to the rings and is the third wonder of the solar system. Brian describes the astonishing discovery of giant fountains of ice erupting from the surface of Enceladus, which soar thousands of kilometres into space.

Am I the only one that can't stand Brian Cox?

He's a smarmy, condescending ****.

It's all well and good presenting a complex subject in a simple way for the masses to understand but don't rub it in peoples faces. His boyish drawl makes me think his voice never broke and what is with that stupid grin of his after everything he says.

It feels like Physics meets Playdays to me.

I'm getting more and more fed up with the BBC's dumbing down if it's factual entertainment.
After that ridiculous Horizon about infinity that was trying to be The Twilight Zone and now this, I'm starting to lose the will to live.
