yeh thats my exchange.

19/10/2006 BT have set a target date of Q4 2009 for the switch to 21CN for the Kelsall exchange.

oh well, i just dont know anymore

Your IP profile is what determines the current maximum possible speed of your line and hence will give you a good idea of whether or not a different ISP could give you beter speeds.

Well there's nothing wrong with the connection between yourself and the exchange all the problems are upstream of there, ie with your ISP.

dammit, its a 18month contract too, jesus

im not having this for another 12 months, funny how every time ive rang up it ends up being my fault, my router, or my phone line, and now lately its the bt exchanges fault.

what would you do if you were in this position ?

Raise a fault with O2, really the only thing you can do. your getting low downstream SNR of 5db, ideally want to keep this above 6db but otherwise your quite close to the exchange and getting good speeds.

HUUUUUUUUUUGE amount of errors to be having though and most likely the reason the speedtests are so bad.

Looks like a serious fault on your line. I wouldnt put up with it. I'd write my problem to them stating that I shall be leaving if the problem is not fixed within x time due to O2 being unable to provide the level of service I agreed to when signing up.

The problem's most likely congestion. The O2 and Be boxes misreport errors, a 5dB SNR margin isn't particularly low by any means and it's known that O2 Home Access is heavily oversubscribed. With that sync rate and IP profile you'd expect to see much higher throughput.

Does it improve outside peak times, i.e. late at night or early morning, office hours?

yeh, it is ok before 6pm and after 11pm, about 5 hours of absolute mayhem, what i previous said, o2 say its congestion at the exchange at peek times

this is what im at now

i can live with that because its a solid speed, (at the moment) its been getting slower as it nears 6pm, but theres no dipping and diving happening untill 6pm so its ok

after 6pm is when the mayhem starts and it dips and dives from 0.2-1 meg, i go from 100 latency to 1000 latency within a second, and it does that all night untill about 11pm and gaming cant live with the dipping and diving so i constantly DC from things.

Im looking at getting the BT broadband, Option 3

How is BT broadband these days.

This is assuming there really is no other option than changing ISP's and i do hope to god that it isnt the Exchange that is actually congested, do you think i could ring up BT and ask them about the exchange ?

There are much better options than BT, the fact you have a BT line doesn't make a difference. Look in the sticky for places to find ISP reviews. Generally speaking if you can't get LLU services then Zen are the best choice.

what i dont understand is the download usage, 5gb download usage a month is 18pound from zen, but how does the download usage work, is it if you download a film or music ?

ive allways gone for unlimited

zen seems rather expensive, and dont do unlimited home package

EDIT: ok nevermind, apparantly i need the 50g package which is 35 pound a month with a 45 pound one off fee. :eek:

Try ADSL24 for cheaper prices but better service than BT.

If you want a decent service with a decent bandwidth allowance on a non LLU line then you need to pay for it. You've got first hand experience of what a cheap non LLU line is like.

yeh i understand, but what im saying is they dont do unlimited, im on the internet every day virtually all day, allso we have a second computer, we download/stream music and movies all the time, with me who is constantly playing online games, 50gb is no where near enough.

so im basically in **** street.

To be honest, I signed up with them last summer and I have not had a problem with them at all, Entanet or MurphX I couldnt tell the difference. Its been top notch service from the start.

As you are on O2 Access that will be the problem most likely. I left them early 2009 with the same problem of really dire speeds in the evening and weekends, even though your down line sync is around 7Mb.

I can't believe how people have forgotten what a rubbish service O2 Access is. And by the looks of your speedtests, still is.

Do you know when you contract expires with them? You might also be able to get out early, but I can't remember name of organisation to contact should O2 refuse to give you a MAC and let you leave without penalty.

That's not how it works, the infrastructure is dealt with by BT Openreach, you cannot contact them directly as their contract is with your ISP, not you, your ISP can open a ticket with them with regards to a fault but you need to speak with your ISP with regards to this.

Threads like this remind me why I stick with Zen.
