Geforce 8800 ultra

yeah, originally started just popping up in windows and getting artifacts, now all the way through BIOS and windows safe mode (crashes in normal mode, using too much memory i guess)

No way to recover it from here?

Oven trick perhaps. I think there's a thread on it here. You essentially put the card in the oven on a certain setting with all of the heatsinks removed and it can fix broken solder joints, which can sometimes cause what you describe.

i have heard of that cooking it solution, apparently only a temporary fix though? after a few weeks it will go again? I might just buy myself a nice new 5870

5750 won't spank an 8800 Ultra - its marginally faster overall but in quite a few games its quite a bit slower.

17% faster than ultra according to http://emsai.net/reviews/gpu/

How the mighty have fallen :D

Hard to find exact figures now as most people testing the 5750 don't bother with the ultra but a couple of places including tomshardware (not the greatest source) show overall at less than 20% faster - mostly closer to 15% which is hardly spanked. If you look at the benchmarks tho loads of games the ultra is pulling say 58fps where the 5750 is only managing 45fps, its just a small number of games that pull the 5750 up.

Look at the 216SP GTX260 results - those 192SP results haven't been updated since release by the looks of it - its slower than the 216SP card but not by that much.

This review is fairly accurate:

Which would tend to indicate the 5750 being a bit faster overall judging on the 8800GT and GTS250 results to give us a rough idea where the ultra comes in but deffinatly not spanking it.

tbh I'd want to know if they are better at 1440x900 as my monitors not gonna be displaying ANYTHING at 1680*1050 never mind 1920*1200!
