Google Street View of 'whole' of UK Going Live Tomorrow

I wonder how many of the Google Street camera cars have been chased down the road by coppers they've just photographed babbling about preventing terrorism and so forth....

I can't get my head round just how amazing this is. Imagine the government for some reason decided to photograph every street in the country and put the pictures online:

1. Public inquiry
2. Multi billion pound budget allocated, only to be spent twice over
3. Creaking IT infrastructure not suitable for system
etc etc.

Google's 'just do it' attitude is brilliant. I really hope they keep coming up with great ideas like this.

My wife just asked me if it shows your back garden as well.
"How the bloody hell do you get the Google Car in there" I said :)
Oh yeah

Not quite as far fetched as you might think... we are puzzling over one at work - where the car went past on the main road outside work - but one panaromic in the supposed sequence along the main road... is from the middle of our carpark - which they wouldn't have had access to.

As you can see I live way off the beaten track. I remember them passing me as I was walking the dogs on this day. The Google car went on another 50 yards then turned around so guess my neighbours wont be getting their faces in on the action.

I know I wouldnt have believed it could be done. Hell of a lot of photostitching and object identification, blurring, and matching, collating all that data. It doesnt work perfect, but it works way above adequate.

wow
my house is on there, though it wasn't my house at the time, still got the for sale sign outside it

awesome stuff google, i can only imagine the logistics behind this!

if i do a front elevation view, the for sale sign is no longer there meaning it was done again after i moved in

Or before it went on the market. :)

Oooooooh, now that is odd. My mates car is parked out side of my house, so it must have been done between Jan and April last year! Funny that you can zoom in, and plus my house looks quiet nice :D

daily mail fail :/ hate to use the f word but it's sooo fitting.

Edit - I did originally under estimate how much they may have covered, however much is still missing.
