Where did you buy your phone from?

If it was a contract or pay-as-you-go phone then the product code will not match the product code of a sim-free phone (e.g direct from Nokia).

Meaning you will either have to wait until your network approves the new firmware or change the product code of your phone by following the guide I linked to earlier.

Just updated mine, they've runied the home screen in my opinion. The contacts bar os far uglier than it was before, and the telephone and contact buttons are the bar as even worse.

Also the first call I received brought up a different call screen where I had to slide my finger horizontally to answer the call. Second call crashed my phone and thirs seems back to normal.

Guys after using my Nokia 5800 for over a year, and then my Motorola Milstone for 3 months, I STRONGLY urge you to ditch it and go for an Android-based handset with capacitive touchscreen. No cheap shots, no ulterior motive, just that it is like getting a drink of water after hiking through 10 miles of desert. The UI is intuitive, the apps plentiful and useful, and the browsing experience is literally 100x better. Just do it.

I'm due an upgrade around May and an android phone is going to be on my list. It will probably take me months to get used to mind. :(

Was that via T-mobile? Ive been stuck at v21 for ages

I did it via the Nokia Ovi suite software. It's under the tools tab, then software update.

I'm sure most people will be doing once their contract is up (as I will be) but you also have to take into consideration cost. I'm paying £15 a month including unlimited internet and the phone was free (12 months ago). The 5800 is a good budget touchscreen phone, I don't think anyone thinks it is better than newer handsets.

I know no-one thinks its better than newer handsets, but there are plenty of cheap Android phones out there right now, and I was just really emphasizing how much it will improve your life, telephony wise, getting it. Remember I was a 5800 user for ages, I grew to hate it with a passion, and im an objective kind of guy.

i'm on orange but my 5800 was bought sim free. i'm on v31 at the mo and have tried to update to v40 using ota and nokia updater through my laptop. It says that v31 is the only one available to me. How do i get v40????
