SETI@home News Vol. 95

Ah.........

Just imagine that, but using this:

So being a bit lazy and not having a look myself which board (which you can actually buy) has the highest number of PCIe x 16 slots.

Others about to be released as well (if thats what you mentioned earlier I apologize - tired)

Edit: you've put up a picture already (I cant type that fast)

I think I can safely say that to buy and populate that sucker I would have to turn to a life of crime :(

Just imagine the output of that thing loaded with 7 GTX480's......

Stuffed with 480's and a couple of hexacore cpu's I think somewhere between 250k - 500k ppd in SETI wouldn't be too much to ask give or take a bit :D

This is all to much, it makes my planned setup's look like a pocket calculater :(

Anyway, just before I sign off for this session I would just like to say that I hope nobody minds the fact that I dished out a couple of bannana's.

As a Seti Classic Vet I know it was a gentleman, who goes by the name of Feek, who had soul responsibility for dishing them out way back then.

I miss him in here (although he might not remember me) and giving the odd bannana out makes me sort of warm inside.

Not just bannana's, we used to get cake and fireworks too - happy days :)

This one goes out to Toxic so I hope you read it........

A good case is a must......

Recommend you look at something like http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-020-CS.

It has seperate cooling areas and removes airflow disruption from cables etc which is a must for high end cards that produce a lot of heat, which I'm guessing the new Fermi Cards will.
Thank you loudbob for the case pointer it looks pretty slick - and a darn site more practical than £500 for a thermaltake10 - it lookas as though it would take evga c mobo.
Am just digesting some of the posts since i fell into a deep sleep....halz your right i shouldnt have seen it lol that is a beast of a setup with all those gpus...world records definately within reach for that proud owner!
Am definately going for the evga classified mobo - am i right in thinking even though it has 7 pcie slots you would only get 4 X 295gpus in due to the size - not that i could get all 4 at once.
Am also pouring over power supplies given that this setup is going to run 24-7 and be pushed hard am wondering which powersupply you guys would reccomend - i certainly wouldnt go cheap on the pwr - as soon as i decide on that last point am hitting the buy button:D

Take care when getting the 7 pci-e slot evga as there are only around 9 or 10 cases that will accept it. The Corsair Obsidian is NOT one of them.

If you want a 7 slot pci-e board the Asus P6T7 WS would be a good choice.

Otherwise, a board that would accept 3 Dual Slot GPU's would be the preferred choice.

Anything more i.e. 4 Dual Slot high end GPU's would require serious consideration as you may well be looking at Dual PSU requirements.

Thank you for that loudbob...have been mulling it over all day...making lists...rewriting lists..playing with the budget...and weighing up leaving the gpu option till the end of the month as you suggested....am sure my hairs going grey.
Is there any preferance as to which gpu to use untill the end of the month and would it need to be compatable in anyway with the fermi cards that are about to be released? Much appreciated!
