alice takes up 6 gigs?

What does it matter how much RAM something uses while it is running, as long as it runs smoothly?

Its not as if you don't get it back when you finish playing.

I don't think he was complaining just wondering why such a game uses so much RAM.

If it was Supcom FA then sure it wouldn't be surprising but a small movie games?

It is quite weird.

The quality of some of the releases recently makes me want to join the dark side sometimes... :(

I know this argument, in my younger days I'd use it myself.

Frankly, if a game's not worth what they're charging, then don't buy it, and don't play it. Chances are it'll be reduced some time after release, and a bargain price might make it more attractive. Regardless of cost and quality, however, there is no right to play without paying.

pirates normally want the top games on day of release...

Because you could have played all those games when they where released not years/months later?

That and it's free.

I don't see where the confusion lies. Most pirates moan that the games are too expensive or not worth the purchase price. £30 is hardly breaking the bank, and if you wait only a few short months they come down to sweetie money. In fact of you look at the charts in most online shops the games prices are £15-£30 for games less than 2 weeks old (or pre-order). Demos and reviews answer the second part.

The ability to purchase something is not a deity-given right. Ease of theft (or copyright infringement) isn't really a valid excuse. Full time minimum wage in the UK gives a salary of at least £600. Living within your means should enable to to have enough cash left over to pay for your hobbies.

By 'your' I don't mean anybody in particular :)

Anyway, I apologise for being grossly off topic.

No, the vocal pirates say this.

Just like the most vocal environment groups call for bans on cars etc.

The average pirate does it because it's free, quick and easy and just don't talk about it :p

The loudest voices don't represent the majority :p

Could you please break it down and explain how you would be able to pay for your bills, rent, food, travel to work costs etc as well as have a hobby on a minimum wage? Let alone purchase a pc to play them on if PC games happen to be your hobby.

I'm not saying that you should be able to do all this on a minimum wage, however you said it was possible and I'm just wondering how.

Depends entirely on circumstances. Kids? Mortgage? Debts? Car?

If you look around you can find people on Job Seekers who can afford these things, so someone with a job or job+benefits should be able to as well.

That's a totally daft question as it depends on things like where the job is (house prices) and an individuals lifestyle. I wouldn't move to London for a minimum salary job, as I would't be able to afford rent or games :D

Essentially, some rules which help answer your question:

Rent a room, not a whole flat or house.
Use as little gas and electricity as possible by wearing warm clothes and switching lights/TVs/PC off when not needed.
Eat Tesco Value food, you can subsist off that about £12 a week.
Walk to work.

Easy! If you want more than that really basic lifestyle, work harder to get a better paid job. Many people do.

And like I alluded to in my post above, if I can't afford to buy a PC or games....... then I don't get them.

Its as daft a question as it was your statement, if it depends on your circumstances then how were you able to give such a finite answer that its at all possible?

Your original post should have read, if you are prepared to eat tesco basic food, rent a room instead of a flat and use as little heating/electric as possbile then you will be able to afford pc games.

I thought the whole point of minimum wage was that you're supposed to be able to live on it, obviously you wont be able to afford very much but with careful spending and living within your means it would be fine

That is absolutely true, given we were talking about minimum wage. If someone wants to afford hobbies and have a nicer lifestyle of course that's possible too, but as an individual it takes a certain a mount of effort to do it, i.e. get a better job.

I'd love to add SCUBA diving and RC racing to my list of hobbies, but as I can't even budget to get a new MTB whilst buying PCs and home audio and paying a mortgage, I have to make compromises whilst trying to earn more money.

Is this not an accepted principle?

I am on £15k a year, which is £1k/month after tax. I have an i7 PC with a 5870, a new i7 laptop, a new HDTV and a new Google Nexus One. On the games front I've bought both BioShock 2 and BFBC2 so far this year which are the only two games I've put any time in to.

Rent is £274/month. Easy to manage.

I pirate games and movies only because I wouldn't be able to afford my hobby of cocaine and hookers otherwise.

Why even bother pirating PC games?

I rest my case.

Exactly. You can just wait and get them for cheap. I just bought these:

C+C First Decade £6.99

C+C RA 3 Tin Case version - £8.99

Medieval II Total War Gold Edition - £6.99

Both C+C boxes are awesome collectibles and make me happy that I have them. I have lots of games that I buy multiple times because I dont buy expansions at full price, usually I buy the games I like, then get the Gold Edition type version with all the expansions when it goes under a tenner. I already have all of the C+C games and Medieval Total War 2, but I didnt have the expansions and dont like paying £15 for them, so getting the expansions later saves a bit. I'll be finding all my extra copies without the expansions and handing them on to my cousins.

Now seriously, why the heck does someone who has a pirated unreleased game feel like posting on a PC forum for support with a *Pirated* game that no one else is going to have yet? Common sense fail?

If you cant afford full price games, then wait for them to go cheaper as they always do.

Sorry I'm late, have the anti-pirates put the world to rest yet? Have the pirates convinced them it's not so bad?

Seriously it's a moronic, time wasting and infuriating debate that's been done to death a thousand times before. Both sides might as well go outside and shout at the moon for all the difference it will make.

A new environmental survey has found shouting at the moon causes cancer and impotence as well as increasing the thread of global warming.

Please won't you think of the children :(
