What you circled is just the shrink wrap plastic outside of the box itself to keep it airtight and safe from scratches. After all, who would want to scratch such shiny new boxes?
I am quite pleased with these photos. So. Looks like Fermi is set for a release.

If it was shrink wrap, it'd let light through, it wouldn't look like white opaque card/plastic.
Seriously, you could guide a jetliner to a runway in a storm with that box!
That looks like thick plastic shrink wrap, reflecting light to make it look like "opaque card/plastic." Plastic comes in many thicknesses. Am I sensing a conspiracy theory? To me, the photos look authentic. The question, I think, is: Will there be enough Fermi videocards for all of the people who waited, despite the awesome power and somewhat low prices of the ATI 5000 series cards? Probably not. TSMC botched the 5970 supplies, and I bet it will botch the Fermi release, too.
I also think that the Fermi cards will probably be a bit faster than the 5870. But ATI will release the 6000 series cards soon. The war rages on.

1536MB of GDDR5 on the GeForce 480? That is 50% more bandwidth than the normal stock 5870.

Its unusual for them not to be shrink wrapped by the time they are boxed up like that, having worked in a warehouse tho I could believe the state anything turned up in.
If someone ordered say 22 GTX470 and 3 GTX480 it wouldn't be suprising to get 4 sealed boxes of 470s then an open box from the 470 with 3 taken out and 3 taken from a box of 480s and put in - and the box shipped in with mixed items... it wouldn't even suprise me if it was shipped in with the box loose and open on top of the rest.
Yes, agreed. Do not take the fact that the GeForce 480/470 cards are in a box as such a big deal. Someone had to put those cards into that box, likely by hand. GASP! A fingerprint! Someone has desacrated your new GeForce 480 with their disgusting finger grease! Oh, no!

Nah - I already have a GPU setup that will best a 5870 in DX9 and 10 and theres nothing worthwhile out that takes my fancy in DX11. Kinda pointless spending several hundred quid for similiar performance.
I'm either waiting til theres something out using DX11 decently that I will play, the nVidia refresh or when I get my bonus around may/june I might just grab a couple of the 480s if I can't think of anything else to spend it on.
