Cable Question (Nooby)

I have got a 9800 GTX which has two 6-pin power connectors but I don't think I have the right cables to power it.

I have an 8-pin cable which won't do the job and I don't seem to have any adaptors that would fit the 8-pin.

I have two cables which have 6-pin, 6-pin, 2-pin but I can't connect them to anything else.

Do I need to order more cables and if so, what type? Thanks.

This card is a replacement for my RMA card - maybe they were supposed to send me some cables with it?

Could you rephrase that? It sounds like you said you have the 6+2 pin cables which are popular because they can act as an 8pin and 6pin with the 2pin bit removed.

My PSU is also a Corsair HX model so I believe this is correct and if so you just need to detach the 2pin bit and bob's your mother's brother. :)

edit: is this what you have?

Yes, I meant I have two of those 6+2 cables. So I can hook one of those up to the default 8-pin PSU cable. For the other one I guess I need to buy a molex to pcie adaptor?

I'm afraid I don't understand. Why can't you just plug the 6pins into the card like normal?

The built-in PCIE cable that comes from the PSU is an 8 pin plug which won't fit into the two 6 pin points in the graphics card.

Those 6+2 adaptor cables have a 6 pin connector at the other end of them - I cannot plug them directly into my PSU.

Hope I am making myself clear. Thanks for taking the time to help.

ROFL

I never noticed those 6 pin slots on the PSU before! They have always been obscured by the jungle of cables in my case. I said it was a nooby question. Now I can see why you didn't know wth I was on about.

Thanks for pointing out the obvious to me.
